Well I think this is a fake. The photo has some distortion around the lettering in the center but not in other places.
On the other hand I have seen messed up stuff from the Religious Right; think if this was from Westboro Baptist Church Sunday school, I would think it was real.

I tried to find a larger one but this was the best I could do. It appears as if this kid actually won a medal from this. I'm going to wager a guess and say that this was not a school project. If it was, this is a messed up school.
