I get the satire but this is not going to help much. As someone else said here, its only going to add to the martyr complex. A better strategy towards undoing the Jesus myth would be to put it on par with all the other mythic stories out there, like Hercules, Santa Claus, Krishna, Ra, Mitras, Jupiter, Xenu, Anguta, Gautama etc etc.
This is an atheist version of what PETA does for vegetarianism. You can love it or hate it. Many people who have christianity, christian practices, forced on them have a lot of anger, and seeing both the sign and T-shirt are kind of liberating.
I'm personally not an in-your-face type of guy. Still, I laughed at this poster, and I like the T-shirt a lot.

I do believe in the right to offend, but have to side with Amanda that atheists ought to take the high road. A common Christian tactic is the "you're just as intolerant as we are" argument. This guy's just helping them to believe that. I don't think this sign will encourage anyone to question their belief in Jesus. If anything, it feeds their martyr story.
You say that "Jesus was crucified" like it is an established fact. I think it is unlikely that such a person ever existed and if he did the idea that he was important enough to be given a public show trial and execution is very much in doubt.
The idea that he thought differently is also questionable with many of the teachings attributed to Jesus were simply lifted from previous god heads (I haven't got time to reference this statement today so I'll leave it with you or we can come back to it if you like).
I don't want to acceptance by religious people. I want the majority to give up their unfounded beliefs in magic fairies. Not all people and their beliefs deserve respect and giving them respect only seems to make them want more and more respect... a little respect for nonsense might be termed 'gateway respect' if one were to believe the gateway drug hype.
The right to offend is one that is taken constantly by the religious. We see them offending constantly under the guise of religious beliefs saying some of the most outrageous things like gay people are inherently flawed and atheists don't have any morality. Why should I protect these people from being offended when they are spewing offence at me all the time.
Darwin Bedford is really out there but he is a public figure and I am more on his side of this culture war than the people he is attacking. His extreme views give non-theists more room to move and I commend him for his activity.
That is awful. Jesus was crucified because his religious beliefs didn't match that of the majority. You guys want to be killed for daring to think differently? That kind of religious intolerance is exactly what we should be fighting against in order to gain acceptance.
It is true that many people take the path of religion to lead them out of destructive life styles.
It is also true that people can do the same thing without a reliance on faith (you just don't hear about it as much).

I've seen posts about the 50 commandments of jeebus put out by xtians that cite chapter and verse and you really don't need a commentary to go along with them.
Boy it sure does kill the whole GOP/Tea Party platform.
From the article Tommy cited.
"However, religious commentators have criticized Hawking's theorizing, saying he can never hope to explain what is essentially unexplainable."
Well doesn't that kind of invalidate their own "god" theory then? ;p
Anybody else read it? I love the basic premise, and being an atheist means I can appreciate the mythology and not get bent out of shape about the multiple deities.
Wyoming is better than the southeast, from what I've seen. It's still a solid red state, though. My big point was that there are no cities. The closest it has are Cheyenne and Casper, each of which are around 50,000 people.
The entire state barely…

I saw a video, or a blog post once that listed all the uncomfortable and illogical things that a person must do, according to Jesus' own words, in order to follow him. The list included hating your family, selling all your possessions, etc. I'm pret…
