Hello booklover. Great to meet you. My husband, 2 year old and I just moved to Rockford, IL. I have to older kids, 23 and 20 but not living with me. I am glad to finally find an atheist around here.
hi booklover - so sorry, i didn't get to you - i really liked what you wrote about yourself and, no matter where one is, it seems hard to find people to talk to. i wanted to tell you the problems i had with it and probably still do, i just don't care anymore. i'll get back to you about though - it's a bit personal and i have to be in the mood :]
I used to have an all black cat -- looks almost just like the black kitty in your photo. In fact my late kitty made that same face -- licking his mouth. It reminded me of him when I saw the picture -- just adorable.
lady merinda...thanks for your message, you a book lover? i like that...hereby please meet the Autodidact...(Jean-Paul Sartre's nausea, minus his pedophilia though!)
I hit the 'reply' wall on that a link from Failblog in replies to 'you' LOL. I guess I could have replied to the main thread but then it wouldn't have made sense to anyone else reading it! Of course I often wonder if I still make any sense at all!
In order to insert an image in a comment, click on the second icon along the top of the window, just after "link", that looks like a rectangle. The window that opens will allow you to browse to an image on your computer. Or you can click the tab "From a URL". To get the URL of an image you can right click on that image and choose "copy image location". Then paste that into the "From a URL" window. You can experiment in the Sandbox group. That's designed to practice and experiment, then you can delete your practice stuff.
RE: "gist" not "jist" in your Stupider discussion. Any time you discovered, after posting a discussion, that you'd made a spelling error or posted a bad link, you can go back and edit it. Look in the "options" button at the top right of that discussion for "edit discussion". Once you change the discussion itself, you can delete your comment about the error, using the x in the upper right corner of it.
Thanks for your friendship, Melinda. I haven't met many people that grew up in a non-religious home, so I'm always fascinated to hear their views on religion. You just commented earlier today that your kids have many atheist friends. Wow!! That is great to hear. They are our future. --Carl
Thank you so much, Melinda, for being just who you are. I am very happy to add you as my friend. I know how things go sometimes, so if you ever need to let go, I have a sympathetic computer you can rant to. LOL! Seriously, thank you very much. Be well, my friend.
i have a lot of religious relatives, especially in-laws. Many of these people have never met or talked to an agnostic/naturalist/atheist and they just assume that religiosity is the default position for all of society. Around Christmas time all the church talk really gets on my nerves. But i keep quiet in order to avoid friction and bad feelings.
Many religious people have never debated the issues or done any analysis. Its just blind faith from age 6 onwards.
Thanks for the sweet comment. I believe we learn from other people. I'm here with a very open mind and when I find the time I will be here as much as possible. Thanks to everyone for making this experience enjoyable! Much love!
I find it awesome that you raised 2 Atheists! This is unheard of in my neck of the woods. You are lucky to have people alike in your life. I also have religious people in my life. I had to attend a funeral 2 weeks ago for my husband's father and I found it sad how everyone kept saying he is now in Heaven with his daughter that had passed some years earlier. I was uncomfortable and could not sit still during the sermon. I could not help but to roll my eyes and think I'm surrounding by a bunch of idiots. Maybe I should have taken it a little lighter but I didn't.
Hey Melinda! You are so nice and sweet and you brighten my day. I just love your avatar with the beautiful cat. So cute!
I hope you have a great day!
I'm thinking about you!
Hugs
Steph
If your cats are indoors, I wouldn't recommend vaccinating them every year.
Many clinics in my county suggest that you purchase a county license when you vaccinate for rabies, and some make it seem mandatory, but it isn't. I don't know how they justify pet fees in Rockford, but I'm not surprised. State law in Illinois does not require rabies vaccination for cats, so I sure would move to a 3 year vaccination cycle, at the very most.
hey Mel. i've been around. commented here and there and started a few new discussions. check them out. my last one was about church/state separation and i thought it was pretty decent but no comments :(
how've you been? getting excited for the election? i'm hosting a phone bank at my house on wednesday!
don't be nervous. Obama will do just fine. he's got better policies and he's more likeable. worst case scenario is a push.
that's great news regarding the kids. they must be excited.
it's funny, i'm in the process of divorce and want to start dating, but i've now closed off so many potential mates. i won't date a christian or a republican. i'm screwed :)
ryan is by far the scarier of the 2. can u imagine that manchild as president? good lord he's got the philosophy of a teenage republican with about as much nuance.
i was right there with you. i kept waiting for him to wake up. who was that guy? Romney fought and Obama was passive. he didn't even mention his main attacks. i can only assume that his strategy was to remain above the fray and act Presidential. if so that's a bad strategy. the fray was right in front of him, and he failed to engage effectively. very dissappointing. i'm hoping he comes out swinging in the next one.
Hey Melinda!
I'm also worried about Tony. Hope he is ok.
How are you? Have you been affected by the storm?
Miss hearing from you.
Lab was stressful today. So tired.

Thank you for the comment, Melinda! I didn't see the notification you sent two months ago until just now **blush** I am glad I'm here, too, and want to post more, especially in "Hang with Friends", but life is so busy! So glad you're here, as well. Although I don't post as often as I like, I feel like I am getting to know you, Steph, Joan, everyone! Love your pics, too! :)

I'll get another kitty cat (same breed as my baby, Black Persian X) once my life stabilizes a bit.
They are charming, affectionate and I love their quirky personalities.
