About Me:
I'm a semi-retired / involuntarily unemployed electrical engineer who has a rather eclectic background, never mind a few miles on the odometer. I suppose I was an "apatheist" for quite a while - largely indifferent to the whole issue of gods - but after 9/11 and the more blatant appearance of evangelicals and Dominionists on the scene, my atheism has finally come to the fore.

Other interests include high-end stereo and home theater (and with that, CD and DVD collecting), BMWs and general car enthusiasm, single-malt whisky and biking.

I flatter myself that I know my way around Atheist Nexus at least reasonably well (I've been here a touch over five years!), so if you need a hand with something, please don't hesitate to give a shout.

Thanks for the comment on my photo. I thought it was so funny! I hope you are having a nice weekend. I look forward to reading more of your Star Trek fan fiction.
  • Steph S.

A general science fan fiction group sounds wonderful! I could either set it up or join. What would you like?
  • Steph S.

Hello again! I've made 3 groups so far. I can also make another one - we could collaborate on the group description if you wish. Yes, the group has to be approved - sometimes it takes a little while. I would make a good icon? Maybe a clip art or picture of a book and a pen?
  • Steph S.

I'll start looking for icons and think about a description -- I'll probably get it all set up tonight --just about ready to do some errands.

  • Steph S.

Thanks Loren for the comment on my webpage.

I got home late today -- I'll read that as soon as I can. I did look it over briefly though -- it looks like an interesting read.

Hope you have been doing well.

    Have a good one!

Hi, Loren!  I love another cat lover's perspective!  Enjoy my photos...I love yours.

  • Dorris Journeay

Thanks for commenting on my photos.  Point-No-Point is one of my favorite places, and the best thing about it is that it's only minutes away from my home!  It can be counted on for moody, dramatic lighting and fantastic views.

I also have a fascination for lighthouses in general.  Always wanted to live in one!

  • Daniel W

Thank you!  I wish I could take some credit for it.  Plus. as someone else noted, he's a very handsome guy, not bad to look at, at all!

  • Steph S.

Hi Loren! I love hearing from you! Yes, I am a big Sci-Fi fan and I love the Twilight Zone. I will check out your blog.  Is it fan-fiction? You could also post it in the Sci-Fi Fan Fiction group as well.

I hope you are having a good week!

  • Steph S.

Hey Loren! I just commented on your blog. I really enjoyed it!

  • Ruth Anthony-Gardner

You got me, Loren. What is " plak tau"?

  • Steph S.

  • Vicky Geez

Hey there Loren, good to know you're from Ohio too. I hope all is well

  • Sarah

I'd rather not as well! :)

  • Steph S.

Hello Loren! I hope you are having a nice day!

  • Tony Carroll

Hello Loren. Just wanted to say thanks again for the help. Like I said, I find science fascinating, particularily particle physics/quantum mechanics. As I've said to my friends when they question me on why I'm reading some books on physics/science "It makes my brain melt", but in a good way. So I may be turning to you with some more questions in the near future. If this is an imposition, please just tell me. I will understand. Thanks for your time. Peace.

  • Tony Carroll

Hi Loren. You're right, but I can't find cream that seems to work. And even though I know The Doctor, found out he's not a medical doctor, just the master of time and space. Bummer.

  • Aria Royce

Hello! I agree you are right on Lewis. I have a question for you. When lewis said  "But let us not come with any patronising nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to. "

What did he mean? Is he saying that Jesus story IS  a myth, and Jesus himself had no control in how the story goes?

  • Steph S.

Hi Loren! I hope you are having a good weekend!
  • Tony Carroll

Yessir. Any recommend will be appreciated. I watched the other ones on youtube. Simply amazing stuff. Thanks for posting the video. Peace.

  • Daniel W

Loren, for some reason I could not play your TED video - probably ineptitude on my part, but if you follow TED you might like this TED remix

  • Steph S.

    Hello Loren!

    Hope you are doing well!

    Steph

  • Steph S.

Hi Loren! I haven't seen you in a while. I was wondering if you had written any more of your wonderful sci-fi for the writing group?

Well I hope all is well with you. Talk to you later!

  • Tony Carroll

Hi Loren. Need some insight, my friend. Started a discussion in Hanging with Friends about someone who came up to me at work and said I think I'm agnostic. Some of your insight on how to proceed with this would be helpful. Thanks, my friend. Be well.

  • Eric Gilnett

Thanks for the thoughtful comment! I pretty much agree with you--its just difficult when people you care about are involved and you don't wish to hurt their feelings or make them feel stupid, even though you know they are being very foolish.

  • Steph S.

    Hi there Loren!

I just wanted to say have a nice weekend! I always enjoy reading your posts.

You write such wonderful sci-fi stories.

Now that the semester is over I can get caught up on things here.

    Take care my friend!

  • Steph S.

    Hello Loren!

It's hot here too! I'm glad you got so much accomplished.

Hope you have a wonderful day!

    Cheers!

    Steph

  • Joan Denoo

Loren, that is a great idea. Perhaps my music appreciation will grow if I listen and I am interested in what you like. Perhaps some will ring my bells. Thanks.

  • Titi

Aloha TS! It's great to see you here! How are ya?

  • Titi

I'm so glad you're here! I find myself growing tired of EP too. Sadly, I hardly have any free time these days. Now that I know you're here, I'll try to be on more :)

  • Joan Denoo

Loren, Spokane Public Library nor our local bookstore have the book or any by the author. I shall read your piece and find what I can on the internet while I seek out other sources. We have a lovely used book store near by and one in the valley, so they have it/him. Thanks so much for your generous help.

  • Joan Denoo

I know, you mention him often. I am going to the valley tomorrow, so I will call ahead to find out if he has it.

I think I will probably be going to Amazon, but will give this effort a try first.

  • stephanie alexander

Thanks Loren, it feels wonderful to finally be able to speak to likeminded people.

  • Steph S.

Hello Loren! I hope I didn't upset you. I really enjoyed reading your piece on the movie "Fallen".
I would have to watch the movie again now to get a non theist perspective.
I hope you have a nice week!
  • Steph S.

Hello Loren! I hope you are having a nice day. I am a Star Wars fan. Thanks for telling me about your discussion. I'll put aside some time to watch all those videos on Star Wars. I think I'll enjoy it.
  • Richard Healy

I did as you asked.  Check the blog again.  :-)

  • Tony Carroll

Hi Loren. Sa James T. Kirk said, the word is given. The guitar playing kinda reminded me a little of Wes Montgomery, even though it didn't sound anything like him. But you get my drift, I hope. Brought to mind early Spyro Gyra, with some Rippingtons in there as well. Russ Freeman is a great guitarist also. Just point me in the direction, it will help shorten my search. Thanks again,my friend. Be well.

  • Alan Perlman

I was right about "booboisie"  -- 200,000 Google hits.

  • Tony Carroll

Man, it was great. Already have it on my Zune, in my media player, and burned them onto CD just in case. Sorry I haven't gotten back sooner, just been working so much. Good on payday, but hell on everything else. When I do get some time, planning on looking up more on Oregon, and buying complete albums. Thanks for this. I love learning about new music that I haven't heard of. Thanks again, man. Really appreciate it. Be well, my friend.

Loren some of my views on the RCC are personal observation with minimal actual contact, plus the history of the faith, including all the pogroms against witches, pagans, gnostic sects and, during the Crusades, Muslims and Jews.  My strongest conviction about the RCC is that they, like Shariah, undermines democracy in any land they invade and stay in.

  • Ruth Anthony-Gardner

Thanks for starting a couple of discussions in Hang With Friends. I get so tired of seeing my own face on discussions.

  • Susan Stanko

    Okay.  Done.

  • Ava Wilson

I would do that if there were an options button, but there isn't. There's a +Add button at the top, and at the bottom the ability to sift through pages, but no other options or buttons.
  • Ava Wilson

And on individual pictures there's no option button either. This is what I mean (screenshot):

Am I missing a button or not seeing one?
  • Ava Wilson

Thanks for the suggestion. I got a different browser working after fixing a previous issue I had had with one of the extensions that prevented me from using it as a default. Thanks!

  • Joan Denoo

Thanks Loren, I shall pass on any responses.

  • Lillie

    Have a great vacation.

  • Joan Denoo

Thanks, Loren. Matt is a man that hits the mark more often than not. He is more level headed, doesn't have an agenda except to reveal historical facts and their consequences and reads the news with a critical eye. My kind of man!  You too.

  • Joan Denoo

P.S. that is not a flirt, it is a fact.
