Excellent post, RB. Dennett maintains that many churchgoers probably don't fully buy into the mythology. But they feel that "belief in belief" is somehow virtuous. In Craig's case, I can only guess that he continues promoting his dated arguments because of the power rush he gets every time he persuades his credulous audience that he has crushed his opponents by speaking fast, counting on both hands, and using the word "therefore" a lot.
