I find the character interesting. The writers make him able to deduce more extraordinary conclusions from minute observations than previous incarnations.…Continue

Is Holmes misanthropic?

Started by Reason Voyager. Last reply by Gordon Spofford Dec 2, 2011. 6 Replies

I feel that Holmes has strong misanthropic tendencies. At times it is all that our hero can do to tolerate the people around him. I would go as far as to say that Holmes has some sociopathic…Continue

Can Holmes survive without Watson?

Started by Reason Voyager. Last reply by Steph S. Nov 23, 2011. 1 Reply

I think that Holmes relies on Watson to be his anchor. Holmes is such a creative and destructive force that he needs the balance that Watson offers. It is almost as if Holmes can look to Watson to…Continue

@Steph I liked the first movie with Robert Downy Jr. very much. I can't wait to see the second one.

I really like Jeremy Brett's portrayal of Sherlock Holmes. I also like just as much Ronald Howard's portrayal of Sherlock Holmes. You can see Ron Howard's episodes for free on Hulu (if you can stand the commercials) at this link

Yes. I do like it, but not as much as the series that are true to the books. I look forward to the second one that is coming out soon. I feel that Robert Downey Jr. is a gifted actor and he captured much of the darker side of Holmes even with the popcorn excitement and fun humor. I really liked the feel of the movie (the visual effects of the battle on the Tower Bridge were great). I also tend to pay attention to the film scores and supporting music. It was very good, especially the use of the violin.

Do you watch the movie version with Robert Downey Jr.?

What is your opinion of that movie version of Sherlock Holmes?

Jeremy Brett was known to be so connected to his Holmes character that he commonly refered to the character he portrayed as "him". He would sometimes spend hours on set alone in preparation.
