Comment by Idaho Spud on February 14, 2012 at 11:31am Interesting clock Edward. However, being the nit-picker I am, it seems to me the number at the 9s place is really 9.00477796077..........
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Comment by Tony Carroll on February 13, 2012 at 11:13pm Thanks. Makes more sense if it can be either particle. All the examples I was reading were showing the positive particle left behind. Maybe was just convenient, or I was reading it wrong. Either way , I thank you very much. I appreciate it. Peace and long life.
Comment by Ruth Anthony-Gardner on February 13, 2012 at 10:34pm The virtual particle pairs are a matter particle and an antimatter particle. Whichever is randomly closer to the event horizon gets swallowed and the other one becomes a real particle which escapes.
Comment by Tony Carroll on February 13, 2012 at 9:17pm Hey science nerds out there. I enjoy reading about quantam mechanics, even though I understand maybe 1% of 1% of what I read. It makes my brain melt and leak out my ears. Anyway, maybe one of you guys can explain Hawking radiation to me. As I understand, when a virtual pair of particles are created near a black hole, before annihilation can take place, one falls into the black hole, while the other remains. True? And the one left is the positive particle, therefore wouldn't that cause a net positive sum value to the universe? Wouldn't that cancel out dark energy to some extent? I'm really having a hard time understanding this, and my brain is melting faster than usual. Thanks for any input. Peace.
