Randall, I use several different training methods.  Slow weight lifting (ten seconds up and ten seconds down, to exhaustion) some days, and multiple sets (5 x 12, or 60 reps) other days.  Progressive intervals on the bike trainer, topped off with Tabatas.  I just have to be more consistent, I think, and make time for longer rides.  Thinking about the Crossfit gym down the road, but that may be too intense.

According to the label, the Dannon Oikos yogurt has only one ingredient: cultured non-fat milk.  So I guess there's no added sugar.  I do use Stevia in coffee.  I've had veggies prepared about every way they can be; I've just never liked them.  I drink tomato juice for the nutrients and eat fruit for the fiber.

Randall, 125 pounds, really?  When I was in top shape--20 years ago, dammit--I weighed 148, but that was with thousands of miles of pretty intense paceline cycling with hammerheads in their 20s.  I am shooting for about 160, still 20 pounds away.

Luara you are right to watch out for sugar and sugar is hidden in many food items - it is best to stay away from processed foods.

I guess the mantra is "everything in moderation". However, I eat lots of veggies and fruits (home grown). Yogurt and walnuts top my fruit, olive oil on vegetables. Maybe Craig's veggies aren't prepared right. I love 'em! I also use whey protein as both a milk substitute and after workout drink (shake with fruit perhaps).

Have you checked out Dr. Mercola on-line? I like his style and recommendations. If you're short on exercise time, for example, try his "high intensity training" (HIT) method. I'm loving it!

I don't think there is conclusive evidence against dairy products.  Some evidence, for example a low-methionine diet may be life-extending, and animal protein has a lot of methionine.    

If you eat yogurt you might look for a brand that's more likely to have live cultures.

I bought a fitdesk, it's an exercise bicycle with a desk on it, so some of my on-my-butt time doubles as light to moderate exercise.  I like it, I can get exercise on it that's strenuous enough to raise my heart rate and breathing somewhat, while doing things on my laptop.

I'll try to get more veggies in.  I've been reading that dairy is bad; does that include whey protein?  Is there a brand of Greek yogurt without the added sugar?  I can take it straight.

I used to bike a lot (100-200 miles per week), but I just can't make the time for it anymore.  So I do intervals on my trainer and two or three weight workouts per week.

I really don't like veggies much . . . .

Sugar and fat and just plain eating too much and not exercising, are the enemies. 

They tend to put a lot of sugar into fat-free stuff. 

It would be a good idea for Craigart to eat more bulky vegetables to lose weight, and not too much sweet fruit.  I save fruit for a special treat and get most of my calories from starch staples.  I buy a head of lettuce sometimes for a snack and eat it.  People think that's funny :)

Fruit has been bred to be much sweeter than the wild version. 

It's funny Randall, I have almost identical stats to yours.  I weigh about 120, I'm 5' 7.5" tall.

For Craigart: For one thing, American "Greek" yogurt is far from the real thing (I know, because I just returned from Greece). Ours adds 4 times the amount of sugar. We won't buy it unless it's sweet--true of just about everything (like cereals). Sugar IS the enemy! I, too, worry about the real fruit sugars, but I think the benefits of the fruit itself (antioxidants and fiber, etc.) outweigh the negatives. It's a double whammy when one is trying to cut back on both sugar and salt. But it's worth it--I only weigh 125 lbs at 5''7". (I use Stevia as a sugar substitute.) What do you think?

how about entering your food consumption into a calorie-calculating program for awhile and figuring out where the calories are coming from.

So I've been wondering about this plateau I'm on.  I eat a lot of fat-free plain Greek yogurt, which somehow has about 9 grams of sugar per 8-ounce serving.  I also eat a lot of fruit, with just a little meat here and there.  I'm going on the premise that sugar is my main enemy, but I'm wondering if I'm getting way too much of it between the yogurt and the fruit.  Thoughts?
