Strategies for dealing with crazies

There have been a considerable amount of violent protests around the world in the past week or so. So, what to do? It is wise to think about whether your actions are rewarding or punishing actions. For example, if laws were successfully passed in Western countries that restricted free speech against the Quran or Mohammad […]

Atheist Response to Rabbi

The Huffington Post recently posted An Open Letter to the Atheist Community by Rabbi Adam Jacobs. The reason behind his letter is "so that we can understand each other better and possibly "walk back" some of the clamorous dialogue." Sounds reasonable enough -- let's see where this goes. I'll be quoting from his letter throughout […]

Can morality be scientific?

Image via Wikipedia There has been some back-and-forth in the comments of my blog, and I wanted to let the discussion out for a bit more air. Jason has been arguing that he thinks that Sam Harris fails to make the case for a scientific morality. I think my criticism is more damaging to Harris' […]

Homosex is immoral -- an atheist responds

Image via Wikipedia I recently walked through a large hostile crowd that had formed around a small group of Christians holding signs talking about the evils of homosexuality. The people surrounding the sign-bearers were largely upset about the signs -- probably a number of Christians, and definitely a number of atheists, as well. The interactions […]

The Department for the Study of Wishful Thinking

The New York Times published an article Nov 12th, The Burning Bush They’ll Buy, but Not ESP or Alien Abduction, by Mark Oppenheimer. It tells the story of a religious studies Professor who wants to increase the scope of religious studies to include all kinds of nonsense. I think he wants to include essentially every […]

morality is as a result of cultural and biological evolution. Theists tend to be so naive. i wrote a blog about it here:

Craig?  I'm blanking on the full name.  Just woke up.  Who is that again?

... or a quick walk through the morality laid out in the Old Testament.

Nope, no such thing as being too prepared, Mike.  I've watched damned near the whole archive of The Atheist Experience, which goes back to 2004.  Between that, watching several formal debates that were posted to YouTube (which are far less useful, on the whole), and reading many books by both atheists and theists (more the former than the latter, since I can only cope with so much of Lee Strobel's, Michael Behe's, and Ray Comfort's drivel), I'm ready for pretty much anything that a walk-a-day Christian is going to throw at me.

True, although I always try NOT to convert anyone but you're correct. I also think the victims are children. They are not presented with alternate belief systems and religious dogma shoved down their throat. It is an interesting and demonstrable fact, that all children are a...”-Ernestine Rose

Agreed Mike. I lost a debate once I remember, but i think I was high(lol kidding.........or maybe not). One theist actually admitted to me after a formal college debate that he just couldn't find responses, and that he would "explore atheism"...I hope he's now an atheist.

Funny how being on the side with evidence and both valid and sound logical syllogisms helps, huh?

Atheists are in a natural position to win arguments :D

Anyone interested in setting aside a day or two for some Atheist Evangelism? I know of a few secular sites that got over run with those spreading the "good news" and--though entertaining to watch--is becoming quite tiresome.

I have a few ideas as to material, but more are welcome. I think fighting fire with fire (and a little ridicule) would be an interesting opportunity.
