Looking for something to do this weekend?

SWiFT will be hosting an event with a representative from Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin to discuss the various services PPW offers, as well as, the challenges facing women's rights to having an abortion in Wisconsin.  This is a wonderful opportunity to get armed with information to to combat the religious zealots who wish to make all abortions illegal.

Sunday 10/21/12 11:00AM

Chase Bank
Lower level Community Room
4702 S Packard Ave.
Cudahy, WI

Linda, you're welcome. I realize everyone has their opinions on everything in existence and since Andrew gave his, I thought I should put in mine. Yes, some of her political ideas were nearly incomprensible and I can see where both sides of american politics would take her in, but I can set that aside since I LOVE a well written novel. A real story. And one that I can relate to. I've read all her books twice now which is a daunting task. As for Atlas Shrugged, there is a movie out now based on the book. I've not watched it yet since it's only part 1 of 3. At least the movie creators are giving the book the treatment it deserves. Hence the length. Anyway, I need to look into this Freethought Festival on the 27th. You know where it's taking place?

Sorry. Linda C. I was aiming this at you. I came here right out of an email and didn't look.

I gotta chip in here. For the one asking about Ayn Rand. Read Fountainhead. 1st. Tell me if it don't inspire you to do your own thing against all that say it ain't shit. When ya get through that, well, if you liked that, try Atlas Shrugged. Granted Ayn wrote HUGE novels. Or One Huge novel. It's very easy to set aside what the modern day republicans claim as their own and the democrats too. Forget all that and read The Fountainhead as just a novel.

I think she wrote some awesome fiction. Screw all the political shit. Really. Ignore all that's been said here to put you off to her. No offence to those who have poopoo'ed her here. We Freethinkers are famous for being Freethinkers who take the BEST of all and incorporate into our own Lifestructure. You'll see. Fountainhead 1st. If'n ya don't like it and it offends you, don't bother with other books by Ayn Rand. This was a woman who could, in the few novel she wrote, spin an amazing tale. The detail is astounding. The visuals. The thoughts. The mindsets of all characters. I only WISH I could write something as stupendous as Atlas Shrugged. Total mindfucker of a novel. Ultimately, she wanted to inspire people. To do what comes Natural to your essence as a human primate.

ok, nuf of me...

It's a bit lonely in the part of the state where I am. Someone once tossed around the idea of a "freethinking group" in Sheboygan, but I don't think anything panned out of that.

Ayn Rand was the author of several monotonous fiction novels, and the proponent of a socio-economic worldview that I can charitably describe as twisted.  She was also an atheist.  That's the only good thing I can say about her, and it's quite telling that that's the aspect of her personality that many of her most ardent followers seem to downplay or overlook.
