Feel free to kvetch, bottling it up is stressful.

We are looking forward to doing Anti-Christmas / Saturnalia stuff this year, as my little girl is very much into atheism and rebellion at the moment. For us, on the holidays rather than trying to get along with relatives or whatever, I gave up on that, so we celebrate in silly style with "Saturnalia" being a holiday of reversal - doing things we normally would not do, I let my girl stay up all night, watch whatever vulgar and inappropriate nonsense she wants on the computer, cuss, sass, wear crazy face paint everywhere for no reason, feed the dog from the table, we go out to a trashy movie (I hope Harold & Kumar's 3d xmas thing isn't out of theaters by December, that would be perfectly inappropriate)  and gorge at the creepy all-you- can-eat China Buffet - pudding & sushi & yikes. I definitely wouldn't want to do that more than once a year. We also have a yule tree and cookies and red & green paper decorations, and whatever else we want from the mainstream traditions because, why not?

I'd love to do something festive with some local atheists, we go the the nature center for Solstice because they are cool with 'The reason for the season is the tilt of the earth!" as my kid loves to exclaim, plus they have outdoor night time activities and snacks. Humanlight was actually a little to reverent for my girl last time, I thought it was mostly pretty, she absolutely hated it. I guess she's more rational than I am - at 7! heh heh heh

I can relate, Erin. I am relatively new to the non-theist community. I know I am not looking forward to the holidays for the same reasons. If there is one thing I have learned, is that this community is filled with genuinely really good people. The SWiFT group in Milwaukee are working on a more social aspect. We are a lot of fun. We'll keep your head straight. Just let us know. We're here for you.

I need to start hanging out here more ... I use FB to keep in touch with a lot of people but I'm starting to feel stifled. Number of fellow atheists in my friend list: 1. I'm swimming in a sea of misguided, probably well-intentioned theists who are nevertheless going to make the next two major holidays seriously uncomfortable for me. Apropos of nothing, I just felt like kvetching.

Hey all, member for a bit and I've been seeing people comment, so I'm adding in a quick hello. I'm an Eau Claire Non-Theist, not very active because my job is pretty demanding, but I also love my job. =P Good to see other individual thinkers!

Hello to fellow atheists in the Indianhead area. I used to take the Hwy. 12 scoot on occasion. Would ride from Hudson to Eau Claire and back and make a few stops along the way. Live outside of New Richmond for a while, in Baldwin for a while and Hudson.

Like most folks, I don't get online as much as I would like but thought I'd say 'Hi' when I saw some local people in the comments.

I hope there are more than just what shows up here ... I know I don't hit this site as often as I should. And yes Julie, I know your area. We live in Hammond, shop in New Richmond/Hudson, and went to school in River Falls. Beautiful area, close enough to the Cities to give me something to do on the weekends.

Yes Troy, it is very sad !

Look at the bright side, I was very religious 10 years ago... then the whole science and logic thing tore holes in that :). Once word of this site gets out, as well as acceptance of non-believers, I believe it'll grow. I do agree the state has become increasingly conservative and right wing. It makes me sad.

Anyone else live anywhere near New richmond? it's not far from Somerset, river falls or Hudson. I'd love to start a group if there is. anyone interested, let me know. If anyone else just wants to chit chat, that's ok too. I'd love to meet other like minded people .

Wow, I hope there are many more atheists in Wisconsin. Doesn't seem to be that many on this site. Unfortunately Wisconsin has become more right wing and religious since I moved here 10 years ago.
