Brittany, My name is Brent and I am a member of Morgantown Atheists. We host a lot of events in which you should have an interest. Our next meeting is this Sunday (the 7th at 5PM) at the Blue Moose, on the corner of Walnut and Spruce. Our group usually meets toward the back of the cafe, so come and introduce yourself to us. We'd love to meet you! Also, check out our website at: http://www.morgantownatheists.com/
Drop us a note and let us know what you think!

Hi, I'm in Grafton, south of Morgantown. My fiance and I are both atheists (well, I'm more of an anti-theist, watched too many Hitchens videos...) We've looked all over the internet after seeing stuff about the billboard. We want to join all of the groups in Morgantown, we're there all the time. Do we just show up to events or is there a formal way of entering the clubs/groups? Thanks for making those organizations and thanks to whoever made this group. We need more atheists in this state.

Thanks for the yahoo group Sonja, I just submitted my request to join. It would be great to head into a few meetups of like-minded individuals. My wife is a somewhat theist; it's not a major problem and she doesn't try to force any religion on our 3 year old. So far so good, and my family doesn't give me too much flak about it, but still, not enough atheists/agnostics around here for me (at least not that I know of).

The Morgantown Brights are having a meeting on June 5 at 6:00 at Bubble@Sikaku. It is the Japanese tea house beside Habichi's grill, behind Boston Beanery. See See the Morgantownatheists Yahoo group for more information

I love the idea of flyers posted around. I'm going to bring that up to my group. Hey, don't think it can't eventually make a difference. Even if a handful of like minded nontheists get together to hang out once a month, you never know where that can lead, or how much just having like minded socializing can help you. :)

I'm not the one in charge of the billboard campaign here in Morgantown, but I'll try to find out how hard it is. I think that the FFRF just really needs one person to find the right billboard company, get prices of different billboards, and then be a "local" to ask for it. I'm sure they'd help with how to handle the media as well. Personally I like the American Humanists billboard better, but I don't think it's as easy to get them or get it sponsored like FFRF does.
I'll keep you posted if I get more info on it.

However, I like Richard's idea. I just don't want to be the one interviewed by the media. haha

Not wimpy at all, Sonja. My girlfriend isn't an atheist. She's not a theist, but more along the deist lines. She can't deny god at this point in her life, so we just ignore it for the time being. The more involved I become, the more agitated she gets. I wrote a letter to the editor in the Herald-Dispatch with a non-theist theme and received a pretty hardcore verbal backlash . Although I'm "out" as an atheist, publicly displaying my name again isn't something I want to do right now. I'm not really into "evangelizing". I just want to attract the non-theists who are out there, but in the closet. Giving everyone a place to be honest is a good start.

Here is the address for the yahoogroup WV Atheists. THey meet about once a month in Charleston. I live in Hurricane. I haven't been able to get to any of the meetings yet but would love to at some point. One of the stumbling blocks in my path is hubbie isn't atheistic and I'd feel kind of weird doing something without him like this. I know, I know - I'm wimpy.
