Comment by Jeffrey Samuelson on May 9, 2012 at 12:54pm Greg, I think many of us share your concerns. But, as they say, there is strength in numbers, and we're becoming more focused and cohesive. We can make ourselves heard!
Comment by Jeffrey Samuelson on May 4, 2012 at 6:12pm For those who are interested, my wife & I - who are members of an atheist meetup in Hagerstown and one in Winchester - just started a meetup in the Eastern panhandle. Check out: http://www.meetup.com/Mountain-State-Freethinkers/. Our first meetup is scheduled for June 9th.
Comment by Jennifer Kaufman on March 26, 2012 at 8:13pm how do we go about organizing such a thing ? I live in Jefferson County, and would be thrilled to help arrange such a thing?
Comment by Leeor Dicker on March 25, 2012 at 10:36pm Seems like a few of us are in the eastern panhandle... any possibility of a meet?
Comment by Brandon Chadock on March 5, 2012 at 8:01am Hi Logan! Welcome to the WV group. I'm not sure where everyone else is, hibernating? I certainly can relate to your experience. The solution? Activism in my opinion. What do you think?
Comment by Logan on March 4, 2012 at 11:45pm Hello everyone. Just wanted to add my voice to this group and say that I am an atheist living in southern West Virginia. Being an atheist can be tough in WV (particularly in the more rural areas). I know that my high school did not respect the separation of church and state in several instances and let students bully their gay classmates with little to no repercussions. Has anyone else had similar experiences?
Comment by Jennifer Kaufman on December 29, 2011 at 6:09am I am in the east, would've thought given my (relative) closeness to Washington DC, that there would be oodles of others, but if there are, they are hidden.
Comment by Donny on December 28, 2011 at 9:47am Do we have any atheist hoopies in the northern panhandle? I live near Wheeling.
Comment by Gerald Turner on December 11, 2011 at 10:29am Welcome to WV! If you are ever in the area, feel free to check out the Morgantown Atheists. We have plenty of events which you can find by going to http://www.morgantownatheists.com/ or joining our Facebook group.

I didn't consider how strong the cultural influence around here would be.
