Our Solstice tradition is broccoli, potato and cauliflower soup, cream based (almond milk), with cheddar on the side for those who want it. Homemade bread, and a family recipe for sweet potato pudding.  (this is not the stuff with the marshmallows, BTW!)

Dessert is usually monkey bread and hot chocolate.

Another holiday coming up!  For people who celebrate with food, what are you making?

This chick makes a vegan custard that uses fine cornmeal (polenta style) and arrowroot powder (among other ingredients) to make a custard.  Don'rt know if this will work for you, but it might spark some ideas.

The sweet potato pie came out AWESOME!  Now if I could veganize it.... ? I just followed the recipe on the sweet potato puree, basically the sweet potato puree (duh), condensed milk, 2 eggs, some sugar, nutmeg, vanilla.  I suppose I could substitute soft tofu for the condensed milk, but instead of eggs?  They give it the custard firmness.  Agar?  I don't know.

What's for thanksgiving dinner?  I'm going to make a sweet potato pie this weekend as a test run.  We usually have dressing, made using vegetarian bullion instead of the broth alternative.  Traditional green bean casserole....

Hello, new to site and I saw this group and thot it was a great idea. I think a lot of atheists have already felt outside of everything but throw in vegan and it's lonely. I found this dish today, haven't tried it yet but I realized today that I missed mashed potatoes tho I'm sure there are many ways to make them...

I didn't know that arsenic was one of the 11 herbs and spices! NY Times.

Farmers have for decades fed chickens an arsenic-containing drug that promotes growth, but after a government study found trace amounts of this poisonous carcinogen in chickens, its maker will suspend its sales

Fun meat fact: half of meat infected with staph, mostly antibiotic resistant. Yum! http://www.cnn.com/2011/HEALTH/04/15/bacteria.in.half.US.meat/index...
