What's for thanksgiving dinner?  I'm going to make a sweet potato pie this weekend as a test run.  We usually have dressing, made using vegetarian bullion instead of the broth alternative.  Traditional green bean casserole....

Hello, new to site and I saw this group and thot it was a great idea. I think a lot of atheists have already felt outside of everything but throw in vegan and it's lonely. I found this dish today, haven't tried it yet but I realized today that I missed mashed potatoes tho I'm sure there are many ways to make them...

I didn't know that arsenic was one of the 11 herbs and spices! NY Times.

Farmers have for decades fed chickens an arsenic-containing drug that promotes growth, but after a government study found trace amounts of this poisonous carcinogen in chickens, its maker will suspend its sales

Fun meat fact: half of meat infected with staph, mostly antibiotic resistant. Yum! http://www.cnn.com/2011/HEALTH/04/15/bacteria.in.half.US.meat/index...

"I don't understand why the vegan meals that I make never look like the ones in the recipe.  What am I doing wrong"  "Maybe you need to put meat in them like they do in VegNews".

Just strange.  It's not hard to take photos of actual food.  You are right, Stephen, it does play into the hands of critics who just need an excuse to point out the hypocracy of a vegetarian magazine that uses nonvegetarian meals in its photos.

I hope "Taliban Times" isn't using photo stock of pork meals and calling it mutton, in their recipe section.  Just kidding about that.

VEg-gate?  VegNews has been using stock photos of nonvegan foods and doctoring them to look vegan.  Some people are pretty upset.  Is it like discovering, too late, that the "vegan fried rice" that you ate actually contained chicken stock?  I imagine that for people who avoid vegan sausages that look too much like the "real deal", VegNews is some explaining to do.

Yeah, I've never heard of anything like this. It does sound fishy. If it's true, I don't blame the person for eating meat. Perhaps now that we can grow muscle tissue in a petree-dish, they should eat that instead (if such could be afforded). This way an animal doesn't need to lose it's life. It does sound fishy.

Chris,

Sounds fishy to me.  Who the hell can't eat beans and vegetables??  Maybe they are lactose intolerant (most adult humans are).  The idea of plant food being dangerous is absurd in the extreme.  Our ancestors have always gotten most of their calories from plants... meat was a small part of the human diet until recently (in most areas of the world).
