This is one of my favorite recipes for Black Bean Burgers.  It is so easy to make.

 

Black Bean Burgers

 

2 cups cooked black beans, drained
1/2 cup cooked brown rice
1/2 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
1 small onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 small green pepper, chopped (I use red)
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 cup chopped cilantro (I use parsley)

 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Mix all the ingredients together, and form into burgers.  Arrange the burger on an oiled baking sheet, and bake for 15 minutes on each side, or until browned, turning carefully.

I use a pastry cutter to mash up the beans.  Then I really mix it all together with my hands and form into burgers.

Oh that sounds good! I don't have a fave...not thrilled with any I've tried to make. Some won't cook in the middle and seem mushy. Some are crumbly and just fall apart. Some just taste weird! ;o)

I do like your addition of cilantro and cumin...sort of a southwestern burger. Never tried that, and may just, now.
What do you think would happen if I left out the oats and used more rice?
I am always experimenting with recipes. You could probably also use some ground flax, grind up some whole wheat bread, or another grain cereal like oat or wheat bran.
I've tried several recipes for veggie burgers and always seem to have trouble getting a burger that holds together. There is a "boughten" brand, Garden Burgers, that makes great veggie burgers in several flavors. My favorite is a char-grilled burger. Unfortunately, I couldn't find it at my regular store last time I shopped. Thanks for sharing your recipe. I may give it another try.
I like the Garden Burgers too. I also like the Chickpea Cutlets in the cookbook "Vegonomicon". They hold together well.

I fix a Morningstar veggie burger.. it's easier lol Your recipe does sound good!
I made this and it tasted fine but the burgers didn't hold together well. The rice I used was cold and I suppose that could have been the problem.
When I make these burgers, I don't use cold rice. I don't think that should matter. Though some brands of rice are moister. I Use my hands to mix it all together well. If it still is dry for you, try adding a little salsa to moisten.

I love the Yukon White Bean and basil burgers served at a local chain in my area, Burgerville. Tried to find a recipe - here is someone's attempt, sound pretty good. Haven't given it a try on my own yet.

Vegan Yukon White Bean Basil Burgers

•1 can white beans (cannelini, white pinto, etc.), drained and rinsed
•1/2 lb. Yukon gold potatoes, steamed
•2 cloves garlic, minced
•1 T. nutritional yeast
•2 tsp. lemon juice
•2 T. whole wheat pastry flour
•1/2 t. salt
•ground black pepper
•1/4 c. chopped fresh basil
Drain beans and steam potatoes and set aside.
