It's both rewarding, and a challenge living as a vegetarian or vegan in an omnivorous world. Just as Atheist Nexus is a community, of and for nontheists, Vegetarian/Vegan Atheists is a nontheist group for people who practice, are interested in, or friendly toward a veg lifestyle.
Wikipedia has an excellent definition of vegetarianism: "Vegetarianism is the practice of following a plant-based diet including fruits, vegetables, cereal grains, nuts, and seeds, with or without dairy products and eggs. A vegetarian does not eat meat, including: red meat, game, poultry, fish, crustacea, shellfish, and products of animal slaughter such as animal-derived gelatin and rennet" and veganism: Veganism is a philosophy and lifestyle that seeks to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose. Vegans endeavor not to use or consume animal products of any kind.
For those interested in debating or criticising vegetarianism, this group is not for you. Such debates can be initiated in other forums. This group is for those who want a sense of community, for vegetarians and vegans, within the larger nontheist community that is Atheist Nexus.

I'm going to lobby for Manchurian dumplings. It helps to be living with a Manchurian person. Maybe a glass of wine with that.
On the other hand, if my favorite dumpling chef is not in the mood for them, I'll have to come up with something. Plan B at the moment is potato pancakes.
I'm jonesing for a mince pie. Not mince-meat. Mince pie is chopped golden and black raisins, chopped whole lemon, chopped whole orange; all chopped together, then diced apples, cooked down in apple juice and brown sugar, and some spices (as I recall, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves or allspice). The orange and lemon peels add a marmalade-like dimension. Maybe that too. It takes several hours to make, so the holiday would be a good time for it.
Our Solstice tradition is broccoli, potato and cauliflower soup, cream based (almond milk), with cheddar on the side for those who want it. Homemade bread, and a family recipe for sweet potato pudding. (this is not the stuff with the marshmallows, BTW!)
Dessert is usually monkey bread and hot chocolate.
Another holiday coming up! For people who celebrate with food, what are you making?
This chick makes a vegan custard that uses fine cornmeal (polenta style) and arrowroot powder (among other ingredients) to make a custard. Don'rt know if this will work for you, but it might spark some ideas.

The sweet potato pie came out AWESOME! Now if I could veganize it.... ? I just followed the recipe on the sweet potato puree, basically the sweet potato puree (duh), condensed milk, 2 eggs, some sugar, nutmeg, vanilla. I suppose I could substitute soft tofu for the condensed milk, but instead of eggs? They give it the custard firmness. Agar? I don't know.
What's for thanksgiving dinner? I'm going to make a sweet potato pie this weekend as a test run. We usually have dressing, made using vegetarian bullion instead of the broth alternative. Traditional green bean casserole....
I didn't know that arsenic was one of the 11 herbs and spices! NY Times.
Farmers have for decades fed chickens an arsenic-containing drug that promotes growth, but after a government study found trace amounts of this poisonous carcinogen in chickens, its maker will suspend its sales
