Hi, everyone. I just listened to the Infidel Guy podcast and heard about this site so I joined up. I don't have jesus jammies but I think they are very attractive. Yeah, totally hot.

Hi. Has anyone been to one of those atheist gatherings around SLC? I think there is one weekly at a coffee shop on state street, then there is one at the Sugarhouse library once a month? I'm wondering if they are cool. I suppose I could go see for myself but I'm not really a person who goes out and meets strangers. You never know what kind of freaks there are running around.

Remy,
I went to one of the ones at the Coffee Shop a while ago. It was actually a lot of fun. You just sit around and talk at those ones. I want to go back when I have the time. It is nice to share ideas with others in person sometimes.

If you google Atheists of Zion Meetup you can join their meetup page to get the information for the Thursday night meet ups.

I do know that when I was there we talked about maybe having a group go see Bill Maher's Religulous when it comes out.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll check out the next one. And I'm really excited to watch Bill Maher's movie. Hopefully the people he offends will make an anti-movie. I like the anti-michael moore movies. The anti-movies are always a hilarious joke.

Ok, so who went to see religulous? What did you think?

We need to have some sort of discussion in this group. I need to occupy my day with something other than work.

I liked it quite a bit. I wrote up a longish "review" here but basically I'd say that despite maybe being a little too long, it was good stuff.

I liked Religulous too. It did have some flaws, but I thought it was kind of fun.

Hey, Jon, I liked your review.

I'm with Bill Maher (anti-vaccination nutcase) and Larry Charles (funny) when it comes to how this movie was made. They painted some really broad strokes and in a lot of cases found the craziest person they could to interview.

I know some skeptics who would flip out, but I don't think that total accuracy is really required when making fun of something completely ridiculous. If one were debating a creationist at a school board meeting or trying to convince a person that vaccinating their kids is ok then it's necessary to be super accurate.

In this movie just standing back and getting a good overview of how full of shit religion is might actually be more effective than being a hyper-accurate, academic study of religion and theology. Religulous' light style might actually be more accessible and reach more people. That will be more people dismissing their religious ideas when they see their own ideas up there right next to ideas they already think are nonsense.

Just a thought.

Hey anyone near the Avenues district of SLC? My wife and I just relocated here from Southern California and we're looking to network, thanks!

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 6:15pm 1 Comment

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

anti-atheist rant from an Orthodox Mormon part 2

What do you think of this,

Nathan Young,

No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it.  The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs.  I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance.  The letter was a mockery of atheism.  Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…

Anti-atheist post from an Orthdox Mormon

What do you think of this Facebook comment?

Nathan Young to Jason Torpy,

for once you and I can agree on something.  We should disrespect beliefs that are untenable such as the belief that there is no God.  Indeed for me to respect you Jason, I cannot respect your belief in non-belief in atheism.  Your atheism comes across as arrogrance, smugness, and self righteous.  Indeed after reading "An Open Letter to My Religious Friends" I penned one…
