"Pioneer Day." I'm sure the local Native Americans just love that.

that guy is so disgusting. They'll have a retrial and send him back to prison.

Yeah, those are the crazy Christians I saw. They can't stand anyone. They even protest the Mormon conference. I like conference weekends because there are plenty of beautiful women out.

I saw the protestors at the pride festival. They seemed more likely to be fundamentalist christians than mormons to me, if we're all talking about the ones on the corner of 4th south and 2nd east right by the entrance/exit.

There were some protesters at pride and that's their right. It’s everyone’s right to be pissed at Mormons or other types of Christians too. My point is that we can't engage in their type of lunacy, freethinkers need to be smarter than that. If we get worked up just because they exist, then we are just as bad as them. If we dream up imaginary grievances then we are, again, just as bad as them. We need to fight specific, real, legitimate issues and in my humble opinion anyone getting pissed off about parades is wasting energy.

Jezzy, it seems like you definitely have a different problem than some of us do because you grew up around the stuff and have people always trying to pull you back in. Either you’ll have to move or start strangling people when they don’t respect your boundaries.

There were protesters at Pride. They're frightening people. They're not really with the average Mormons though-- they're not cool enough even for them, haha.
But I went to church a couple times during the Prop 8 fiasco, and they could not seem to shut up about homosexuality, or even what "they" as a church apparently believe, or what "they" did in Prop 8. Either the church will have to do a whole lot of backtracking, or there's a huge population too rational to be calling themselves Mormon.
Brian, you clearly don't live where I do. It's very frustrating. It feels almost cultish to me... They've tried to "reach out" to me for years. I can't even talk to my therapist about some things because she's Mormon.

I agree with the last few commenters, the days of '47 parade shouldn't be a reason to be pissy towards the misinformed (I'm putting it nicely). Instead, celebrate the holiday for what it's for, Utah's admittance into the US. And to quote the Simpsons for the state "Celebrate the nations birth by blowing up a piece of it" and I plan do to that as well.

I have no problems with any mormons in this state. They don't do anything at all to bug me on a personal level. When anything bad happens and the local news interviews somebody they always bring up god or jesus or their faith and that bugs me,but only because it's a useless gesture, not because of their religion. Every year the mormons in the state government try to legislate morality and that bugs me. But no mormon has ever tried to convert me and if anybody looks down on me for drinking a beer, which I've never noticed anybody ever do, what the fuck should I care what a goddamn mormon thinks about goddamn anything?! If you are bugged by mormons wherever you go, the problem might be with yourself. I've lived in Alabama. Utah is so much better than that place.
Remy Comment by Remy on July 22, 2010 at 2:34pm
If Mormons having a parade is going to drive you insane the problem is not with the Mormons, it is with you (unless you are stuck in a traffic jam caused by the parade). When the gay pride parade came through people pretty much put up with it. Religious people can really piss me off too, but I'm not pissed that they exist - I'm pissed off at things like them supporting Prop 8, id est they are getting pissed that people different from themselves exist. My point is take it easy, you are new here, try to get along, go on a hike in the beautiful mountains, and don't give yourself a heart attack.

From the article Tommy cited. "However, religious commentators have criticized Hawking's theorizing, saying he can never hope to explain what is essentially unexplainable." Well doesn't that kind of invalidate their own "god" theory then? ;p

Anybody else read it? I love the basic premise, and being an atheist means I can appreciate the mythology and not get bent out of shape about the multiple deities.

Wyoming is better than the southeast, from what I've seen. It's still a solid red state, though. My big point was that there are no cities. The closest it has are Cheyenne and Casper, each of which are around 50,000 people. The entire state barely…
