I just noticed you are form Austin. I guess a hundred degrees is not news to you. But here in New Jersey it's rare.

Thanks for your reply, Eddie. I would love to see my boys become more familiar with the world's religions, but I really want to avoid indoctrination. I think that the UU is probably a good choice. I know some people who go there and I think they're all fairly liberal. I'll probably give it a shot. Thanks for your insight and advice :).

Heather my children were all grown when I started going to my UU church. We actually call our place a UU Center but many use church. Anyway I have taken some of my Grandchildren. Most UU churches have a separate service for the children where they do all kinds of crafts and learn about life and sometimes even different religions. But no religion is forced on them. It's strictly education. I know my Grandkids love going. They make it fun for the kids. You can join your kids in their service if you lake. At least they do at my UU Center. All UU churches are not the same so I can't say for sure about those near you. And it can be entirely different from week to week so you may want to go a few times or check out a different UU church.

Hi everyone! I'm new here and I'm thinking about joining my local UU. I have two young boys that I homeschool and would really like to see them get more involved in our local community. When I mentioned this to my oldest (8) he just gave me a look like I'd lost my marbles :). Last time I took him to church (some special thing my Grandma asked me to come to) he asked the Sunday school teacher who made god, and continued to explain that it was not possible for all the species on our earth to fit on Noah's Ark. The lady didn't like that all too much... Does anyone have any experience with taking atheist children to UU?

Hi folks,  I'm president-elect (will be prez in '12) of the Unitarian Universalist Community of El Paso, TX.  For a while now, I've been thinking about how to reconcile my deep involvement with UU, with my increasingly firm commitment to naturalism and non-theism.  I've decided that (a) UUism offers benefits to me that have nothing to do with "religion", but a lot to do with community and self-actualization; and (b) I can't be president of a UU church without taking the opportunity to "evangelize", at least a little bit, in favor of atheism.

Will Faithless Sophia, why not be friends with anyone as long as they're open to debate/reasoning/considering that they *GASP* might be wrong? I know far too many 'sceptics' who do not belong to that category...

Thanks for the advice. We do have a local UU church. I was looking for some other university students that might attend our local congregation, but to no success. I do see the minister at events around town. I think that I may introduce myself to her. This may make it easier for me to celebrate with the sometime.
