Tell you what, Tony:

I went to see J. J. Abrams' Star Trek.  I even got the Blu-Ray of it ... but the fact remains that it resembles the original series and Roddenberry's intent the way a fish resembles a bicycle.  I wrote a review of Abrams' first effort on another board, and I'm giving serious thought to reposting it here.  Matter of fact ... you might give a read here.

I'll try to remember to "buy " that on Black Friday. Thanks, Joshua!

Hi, I just discovered this group and atheistnexus. I hate for my first post to seem self-serving, but I have an e-book (only about 30 pages) with what is (hopefully) a fun mix of Star Trek and atheism that will be FREE on black Friday at amazon.com: The Faith of an Atheist. Fellow trekkie atheists might enjoy it, and it's free this Friday.

"Quark" ... was cleverly, wickedly funny.  I think that was about the time that the average couch potato had to have everything spelled out for him/her in capital letters.

One of my general gripes about TV is laugh tracks (reportedly much more common in U.S. than in British TV). Do we really need to be hit over the head and told "That was funny!"?

Another purpose of laugh tracks could be simulating a social group, creating a feeling of watching with other people even when you're watching a show alone.
