The Doctor is coming to Denmark! I have to buy a new telly as it's only being sent on an HD channel but what the hell. Deep joy!

It is interesting though that he did kill all the time lords and most of the darleks and continues to do so...  genocide!  But yes, he does also seem to understand the causal web and realised that darleks are fully caused to kill without fear or compassion.  I'm sure your book covers it all! :)

Alice - Thanks for the link. I am glad to see that it is available in the UK. To answer your question, I have some material about the Doctor as killer, but mostly related to the issue nonviolence. That is, the Doctor is almost never (a very few exceptions mostly because the makers at the time were not fully aware of the series) a willful killer. In the Davies era, there is a repeated pattern involving the Doctor's giving the villain a choice - desist or take the consequences. When the Doctor kills, it is almost always defensive, either defending him or someone else. This creates a different moral environment than it would be if the Doctor simply went about Rambo-style killing anyone he didn't like.

love it - does it include all the references to the dr being a mass killer and his personal feelings about that???  :)

I just want to let you Doctor Who fans know that my book "The Humanism of Doctor Who: A Critical Study
in Science Fiction and Philosophy" will be published by McFarland in Spring 2012. You can find the listing by going to http://www.mcfarlandpub.com/catalogs.html and clicking on "New Titles for Spring 2012." The book is on page 17 of the Spring catalog.
