The Pearlist Persuasion

Information

The Pearlist Persuasion

Physical Evidence and Reasoned Logic (Pearl) supporter, or Pearlist. Some say, "brights", some say, "discredist", we say, "pearlist".

The Reasoning

The purpose of this group, and the term "Pearlist", is to address the inadequacy of the term atheist, which does little to describe the widely held disbliefs of so many of those who refer to themselves, as such.

We are not here to condemn any other alternatives. This group seeks, only, to premote the idea, of this new term, in order to eliminate confusion, on the subject, of what we as "atheist" believe and disbelieve.

Please, post your thoughts and comments, so that we might understand how this term is percieved.

Whenever speaking, to religious people, on the topic of personal perspectives, I, often, find the term, atheist, to be, a bit, confusing, for many. It's not hard to see, why, they get hung up, on the…Continue

I think it is simpler to say I'm a cool atheist and demonstrate the cool factor. Then I've done all my atheist friends a favor.

That makes sense. I just think, it makes it easier, for people to understand, where your coming from, if there is a lable, that describes your way of thinking, whether or not you hold to that lable, in the strictest sense. As long as you can describe yourself, as something that people can relate to, their one step closer to understanding. There is, certainly, more to life, than physical evidence and reasoned logic, but if disscussing a matter of seriousness with some one, of a differing opinion, it is conducive to their understanding, of my perspective, to know that I'm a Pearlist.

I don't mind an effort to relabel anything, but I think it's destined to fail because the people who need a different label for the atheists are the other people. I'm not atheist Seth, I'm a collection of details, none of which define me well in isolation.

Understood. I think most free-thinkers, if I'm not mistaken, feel that way, but the switch would serve the purpose, of creating a clear and concise picture, in the minds, of others, what we are about. It is, simply, more accurate.
