I'm sorry to hear that he's gone. He was one of a kind. I've listened to him since my school-days through til now.

The influence of Don Van Vliet, aka Captain Beefheart, stretched from the Grateful Dead to the Sex Pistols and beyond

Don Van Vliet, better-known as Captain Beefheart, one of the most influential American musicians of the 1960s and 1970s and avant garde frontman of the Magic Band, has died in California, aged 69. A representative of the Michael Werner Gallery, in New York, which hosted several of his art exhibitions, confirmed his death from complications from multiple sclerosis in a statement yesterday.

Fields of the Nephilim is a band that is typically loved by goth people, though I'm not sure that they really qualify as "goth." I don't know all their work, but most of what I've heard is pretty low-key and monotone. This is probably the liveliest song they do, which is not bad to listen to from time to time. They remind me of The Cult.

I saw this band open for The Electric Hellfire Club many years ago. Then my coworker got the CD via the web thinking it was something all together different from what it actually was, so I borrowed it and copied it. They are amateurish, but I don't care! I really enjoyed this CD a lot, an listened to it all the time before it gave out. The lead singer has a strong voice, but she lacks control (as you'll be able to tell). Still kind of fun to listen to though, imo.

I am obviously not a fan of gospel, but anyway:

I knew there was some satire (or homage) in the group, but I didn't realize that they were so recent. He does have an incredible falsetto.

Yeah, I got it that Gusto was not a Xtian band. I was just saying when xtians says that stuff it really irks me.

Neither. It was the the early 2000's. The Darkness were a throwback to 70's glam rock and 80's hair bands. They blended the best of both worlds with sarcastic lyrics and a fucking phenomenal falsetto.

Guster, btw, is NOT a xtian band. They are Jews culturally but none practice, to my knowledge. They are very funny and have humanist tendencies as exhibited through their side projects (Reverb is a group that encourages touring bands to go green and helps them do it) and their on stage banter.

Okay, I totally remember the "I believe in a thing called love" song. Too funny. Was this the 80s or the 90s?
