Over the last few weeks I have been posting things appropriate for Halloween in both the cinema and book groups. I thought I might post a few songs here that fit the season as well.

Today’s selections are “Ave Satani,” from The Omen soundtrack, “Self-Tormentor,” by Diamanda Galas, from the CD Saint of the Pit, and lastly “Portrait of a Dead Girl,” by Gitante Demone, that I got off a compilation CD.

I will post twice more in the next week or so.

I love The Exorcist, even though it is mainly xtian propaganda. The book, read by the author, is quite nice to listen to, as well. It is not available on CD, but you still get it on cassette tape. If you haven't seen the latest director's cut of the movie, with added scenes, you should. The interviews are an extra bonus, too.
I used to have that as the ring-tone when my wife called, because that movie scared her so much and I thought it was funny.
That would be an awesome ring tone. I don't have a cell phone, but if I did, I'd love to have that funeral dirge -- I don't know the name of it, but it goes: Dum dum da-dum dum da-dum da-dum da-dum.
Walter Carlos - Sonic Seasonings -- wolves howling and electronic weirdness

Mozart Requiem - Dies Irae (Confutatis, maledictis, flammis acribus addictis)
Berlioz Requiem - Dies Irae
I want to say that the only Dies Irae I've heard is one by Penderecki, but that would have been way back in college. I will look these up at the library and see if I can listen to them.
The only thing I can find on Walter Carlos - Sonic Seasonings is on Amazon.com as a used vinyl.
Le Grand Macabre (György Ligeti) seems de rigueur for Halloween ;-)

Ligeti is that composer who's often associated with Stanley Kubrick. If you've seen Eyes Wide Shut, you probably remember that chilling piano music, played on only two notes.

And isn't Walter Carlos known as Wendy these days?

I hated that movie and I did not recall any of the music. However, I just now went to Amazon.com and sampled the part you were talking about. Yes, that is very effective music, and does have a Halloween feel to it.

Le Grand Macabre sounds whack!
I didn't like the movie either, except for the billiard scene near the end. And I can't remember how Le Grand Macabre sounds (I only remember I didn't like the parts I listened to, but it was long ago), anyway the title seemed appropriate ;-)

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 4 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

anti-atheist rant from an Orthodox Mormon part 2

What do you think of this,

Nathan Young,

No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it.  The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs.  I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance.  The letter was a mockery of atheism.  Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…

Anti-atheist post from an Orthdox Mormon

What do you think of this Facebook comment?

Nathan Young to Jason Torpy,

for once you and I can agree on something.  We should disrespect beliefs that are untenable such as the belief that there is no God.  Indeed for me to respect you Jason, I cannot respect your belief in non-belief in atheism.  Your atheism comes across as arrogrance, smugness, and self righteous.  Indeed after reading "An Open Letter to My Religious Friends" I penned one…
