I meant that the Jewish kids could through the scrolls at the non-Jewish kids. At least to me, a non-believer seeing a scroll come flying at me from across the room, well it's at bit more scary....lol.

Having lived in Richardson and McKinney, I remember when Mexican heroin was the big "problem" in Plano. Mind you, this is way before the City of Plano banned carports.
But, yet again another use for the bible. ROLLING PAPERS!

Read your comment, Rick. Am an ACLU member and I got the Gideons report a couple of days ago. It's sad when you read about middle schoolers using bibles to torment Jewish kids "You'll burn if you touch a bible," etc., but I loved the part about how in Plano the kids were using pages from it to roll joints.

Anyone know of a local place in Houston to get some atheist car decals. I have the same vehicle that everyone's sister has. However, I need something a little under the radar. I've had my fair share of run-ins with idiots because of way to blatant decals & bumper stickers.

Mary, I heard you can't swing a dead cat in Austin w/o hitting an atheist. If you haven't yet, check out 'Atheist Community of Austin', or check out their podcasts- 'Atheist Experience' and 'The Non-Phophets'

Yet again here in Texas it’s that time of the year. The bible pounders come out in force. Who are these people?

Those whose family tree that didn’t branch; those who have to take their pants off to think straight (not in the sexual sense..); those who need to really get laid; and the religious right wing nut cases who are just waiting for the world to end, come out onto Texas.

And make everyone else’s lives a true living hell.

To those of us here in the Bible Belt who 25 years ago during the 1984 Republican Presidential Primary, who didn’t go out to their car and get their base ball bat. Then upon returning to the meeting beat the so called “Christian Coalition” yahoos who showed up about their head a shoulders.

Oh, if one could only go back in time.

Well as I said it’s that time of the year. They’re trying yet again to bring religion into the public schools.

They’re trying the “Let’s see if anyone says anything” approach by having in some school districts a class entitled, “The Bible as Literature.” We’ll some of us are on to them and we’re just waiting for yet again another needless lawsuit that could have been avoided HAD OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS DONE THEIR DAMN JOB!

Maybe if we made it a law where the elected officials who don’t and didn’t do their jobs had to pay for the litigation, it might stop such things.

Well here’s an article the ACLU has sent out.

Enjoy.

I especially like the way some of the kiddies used the bibles as projectiles. Ya know, those Jewish kids have scrolls. Now when thrown those things will leave a mark…

Let me know what you all think.

Dear Texan

Earlier this year the ACLU of Texas received information that the Gideons International were allowed access to public school campuses in an effort to distribute Bibles in some Texas school districts, and we initiated an investigation.

Today, we’re publishing a report on our findings. We encourage you to read it -- you may be surprised by what is going on in your local school district.

According to the report, in one district, students used the Bibles as projectiles and as objects to harass Jewish classmates. Christian students were upset by the defacement of their sacred text, and some parents complained about students being coerced into accepting the Bibles.

In addition to specific details on the districts we investigated, the report includes a number of general recommendations parents, community members and school administrators may use to ensure ALL children’s religious freedom is respected and protected at school.

If you are concerned about Bible distribution in your child's school, we urge you to take action. Take the report to your school’s principal or superintendent, or school board, and urge them to adopt the recommendations. If you believe your child’s rights may have been violated, you may also submit a complaint online to the ACLU of Texas.

Although we will not be able to respond to every complaint we receive, the information you provide will help us monitor the Gideons' practice and identify problem areas around the state.

In liberty,
ACLU of Texas

I'm from Austin and I'd like to meet other atheists in this area.
Antoyne E. Davis, I definitely know what you mean. My husband and I just got back from a trip to Boston to visit old friends and it was awfully nice to spend a little time in a less religious atmosphere. I saw only one idiotic, nutzoid Jeebusite bumper sticker in the five days we were up there.
