TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader.

The annual conference now brings together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes).

This site makes the best talks and performances from TED available to the public, for free. More than 200 talks from our archive are now available, with more added each week. These videos are released under a Creative Commons license, so they can be freely shared and reposted.

Comment by Lillith on February 18, 2009 at 1:03am: I had to join this group. I have been a TED fan ever since I found videos of one of my favorite poets, Rives, speaking at a TEDtalk. Why TED isn't more publicized on mainstream news eludes me. Then again... no it doesn't, actually.

Comment by Chris on July 17, 2008 at 11:31pm: I've been watching these slowly in succession since I saw The Future We Will Create, stopping to look up different speakers on YouTube and getting WAAAAY sidetracked by volumes and volumes of videos of Dennett, Harris, Hitchens, and Dawkins.

One of my favorites is Michael Shermer on believing strange things. He's just a very entertaining guy and you could kill a whole week watching him on YouTube.

He was uncredited for a recent appearance on Penn & Teller's 'Bullshit!' program, which airs on Showtime.
