About TED

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader.

The annual conference now brings together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes).

This site makes the best talks and performances from TED available to the public, for free. More than 200 talks from our archive are now available, with more added each week. These videos are released under a Creative Commons license, so they can be freely shared and reposted.

Oh they're (almost) all so wonderful! I'm loving the videofeed in my iTunes.

I've been watching these slowly in succession since I saw The Future We Will Create, stopping to look up different speakers on YouTube and getting WAAAAY sidetracked by volumes and volumes of videos of Dennett, Harris, Hitchens, and Dawkins.

One of my favorites is Michael Shermer on believing strange things. He's just a very entertaining guy and you could kill a whole week watching him on YouTube.

He was uncredited for a recent appearance on Penn & Teller's 'Bullshit!' program, which airs on Showtime.

I have so many favorites but my most recent favorite was Benjamin Zander. I started listening to classical music because of him. He gave me a whole new perspective.

There are definitely a lot of good ones. One of my
first faves is Julia Sweeney's: Letting go of God.

I've been following the TEDtalks on my iTunes for almost 2 months now! I'm an addict. I disliked the Billy Graham and "Purpose Driven Life" ones, but I really enjoyed Julia Sweeney and Dawkins, as well as "The Universe on a String".

I had to join this group. I have been a TED fan ever since I found videos of one of my favorite poets, Rives, speaking at a TEDtalk. Why TED isn't more publicized on mainstream news eludes me. Then again... no it doesn't, actually.

They're too expensive for regular folks like you and I to attend. I would love to be there. One day I will, be it speaking there or just listening.

Nice! There is a TED group, very cool! I love their talks, they all make me think, if even just a little. Though I greatly enjoy the science ones most, so if you see one, link it to me :)

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 5 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

Posted by Christy Stewart on May 20, 2013 at 2:17pm 6 Comments

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…

anti-atheist rant from an Orthodox Mormon part 2

What do you think of this,

Nathan Young,

No Jason Torpy it is you that should be banned for promoting atheism, a belief that has no foundation in reality and zero proof behind it.  The letter was a mockery of your atheist beliefs.  I request to the board here that they remove Jason for his unverifiable beliefs in atheism for which he has no proof other than his arrogance.  The letter was a mockery of atheism.  Atheism is stupid and it should be mocked and it…
