Drinking Skeptically Pittsburgh's 2nd Monthly Happy Hour this Friday!

December Drinking Skeptically!

What: Drinking Skeptically Pittsburgh - 9th Monthly Meeting
When: Friday Feb. 20th 7:30pm – 9pm
Where: The Claddagh Irish Pub, South Side Works

Drinking Skeptically is an informal social event designed to promote fellowship and networking among skeptics, critical-thinkers, and like-minded individuals.

Drinking Skeptically provides an opportunity for skeptics to talk, share ideas (and yes, drink) in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. We discuss the issues of the day and whatever else is on our minds. But most of all, we have fun while promoting skepticism, science, and rationality.

More information about Drinking Skeptically can be found here and on the Drinking Skeptically Pittsburgh Facebook group.

Hey, everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Josh, and I currently live in Albuquerque, but my wife and I are moving to Pittsburgh sometime in July. I'm really sad to leave my Drinking Skeptically group here in ABQ, but I'm thrilled to join the Pitt DS, as well as all the other skeptical/atheist goings ons in your town. So... yeah. Can't wait to meet you all!

Thanks Laura! I made it. I shrunk it down so the thumbnail wouldn't be cropped in the group search listings, but that makes it pixel-y so I've gotta fix that. But I thought a little black n' gold would be appropriate! :D

It is true that many people take the path of religion to lead them out of destructive life styles. It is also true that people can do the same thing without a reliance on faith (you just don't hear about it as much). You sound like a very nice you…

I thought it was utterly brilliant that he said Abbot's offer of a billion dollars for Hobart hospital was immoral! His refusal of such a ridiculous bribe iis one of the first moral acts I've ever seen from a politician. Clearly the man will have a…

I've seen posts about the 50 commandments of jeebus put out by xtians that cite chapter and verse and you really don't need a commentary to go along with them. Boy it sure does kill the whole GOP/Tea Party platform.

Seems like you could be in danger of getting more than just your tongue stuck, to a dancing pole at the north pole . . .

Just be carefull... I had a similar discussion with my sisnlaw and it almost caused a big rift in my otherwise tightly nit family.

From the article Tommy cited. "However, religious commentators have criticized Hawking's theorizing, saying he can never hope to explain what is essentially unexplainable." Well doesn't that kind of invalidate their own "god" theory then? ;p

Anybody else read it? I love the basic premise, and being an atheist means I can appreciate the mythology and not get bent out of shape about the multiple deities.

Wyoming is better than the southeast, from what I've seen. It's still a solid red state, though. My big point was that there are no cities. The closest it has are Cheyenne and Casper, each of which are around 50,000 people. The entire state barely…

I was in Panama City this past weekend, but I didn't have any free time. I was there for my brother-in-law's pinning. He was promoted to Major in the Air Force. The promotion ceremony was full of God and Jesus references, and the invocation was give…

I saw a video, or a blog post once that listed all the uncomfortable and illogical things that a person must do, according to Jesus' own words, in order to follow him. The list included hating your family, selling all your possessions, etc. I'm pret…

It's been almost a full day, and none of them have responded. I'm hoping that's the end of it, and they have bowed to my superior sophistry. ;-)
