Just providing an updated link to the Black Hills group. Dont let the silence of this Atheist Nexus page scare you, both the Sioux Falls and the Rapid City groups are very active and here to stay.

All of my friends in this town are christian, and as a musician/audio engineer before I really decided I was definitely an atheist, I ended up doing sound as a favor to a friend at his church. Now I'm stuck there, and I'm too nice to leave him hanging. The only part that really bothers me though is the disconnect in the brains of these people. They will be given serious evidence to challenge their beliefs, and will outright agree that said evidence exists, but like completely ignore the implications of that evidence. The worship leader didn't know that the ending to Mark was not originally in the bible, for example. I showed it to him (in his very own bible, even) and he was shocked to see it. Did this shake his crazy beliefs any? Not one bit. UGH. it's so damn frustrating! I need some support. D=

Comment by Mallory Wilde on May 24, 2012 at 12:40pm: We need a South Dakota Atheist convention! Let's put us on the map with the rest of the country. Let's meet, chat, and find new friends! We recently raised money and held a debate between David Silverman and Alex McFarland here at Black Hills State in Spearfish. Afterwards, Dave brought up that there is no representative for American Atheists here in South Dakota... so something also to consider. I will be going to California this next month and meeting with Heather Henderson of the Ardent Atheist show and Singer of the the No God Band with Penn Jillette. I want to put myself out there, make connections, and start something here. Chat rooms, facebook groups, and small group meeting here and there are good, but at least once a year we should ALL get together. Start small and see where it goes!
