Songs?

I used to pick them for an atheist radio show a
few decades ago (mostly 1980's).

Here are a few we had in "high rotation":

Atheist Tabernacle Choir - Spitting Image (hard to find)
Imagine - John Lennon
God's Song - Randy Newman
Your God Is Dead - Mussolini Headkick - (not easy listening...)
It Ain't Necessarily So - Gershwins (Porgy & Bess)
Freewill - Rush
God - Tori Amos
Dear God - XTC
God - John Lennon
Jesus is Easy - Martin Mull
Eastern Intrigue - Todd Rundgren
Jesus Thinks You're A Jerk - Frank Zappa
Jesus Loves Me (But He Can't Stand You) - Austin Lounge Lizards
Gunsale At The Church - Beat Farmers

Maybe I'll think of a few more, but it's been a while.

Enjoy them for the fun lyrics if not the music...

I've always been a fan of XTC's "Dear God," and Sarah McLachlan's version is a bit less powerful but easier to understand (which doesn't explain so many errors in the lyrics in that video...

Would like to see more information on this. Her postings would be most welcome, since that's what got her suspended. Suspended with pay seems more to remove the teacher from a situation so it can be investigated, than a punitive action. Also, I wonder if her school district has a media policy as to what she can and cannot post online pertaining to her job.

saying things like she was able to "shame her students", calling it a hate crime... saying she wouldnt let the incident go unpunished....
she even called the kids cruel and ignorant. (for what i can find... i cant find the actual facebook page)

the humble opinion of this atheist is that she handled a stupid situation in the worst way possible... furthermore she didnt leave in in the class.. she took it public.

kids can wear jesus shit to school... kids can read the bible... hell im sure kids can sing jesus loves me (as long as it isnt interrupting anything).
kids can give you a bible, kids can make comments about you, and none of that should matter.
an educators job is to educate, not police the religious beliefs or actions of their students.

and our educators should be intelligent enough to realize that even though they are in high school they dont have to act like high schoolers.

having said that i dont think my opinion will be set in stone until i can read what was actually written... or at least hear her side of the story, which im sure wont come out until the school board decides her fate.
thanks for posting this article root, it was interesting.
