No, it's okay. We don't hate kids or anything. But we've also been to meetings where nothing but the children was talked about, which is kinda no fun for us. Nobody wants to hear about our cats either... ^_^

Since I seem to be the only one that needs a family friendly event I'm fine with you guys planning something else and if we can get a sitter then we'll attend.

Debbie and I might make it, but we don't want to spend the whole evening talking about kids (we're fine without them). Although I could use them for material in my stand-up act...

My husband and I are planning on having children and how to teach religion is a strange thing for us. Both of our parents are religious, but not church goers. We want them to know about all of the different religions, but not feel forced to join one or any. It's tough!

In an unrelated thought, about a month ago, I was driving down Patewood in Greenville and saw someone ahead of me in a Jeep (possibly, I have a horrid memory) with a secular humanist sticker on their car. I got all fuzzy inside.

I'm also interested in meeting other atheist parents in the area.
George,
There is a very good book called Parenting Beyond Belief you should check out. My husband and I don't actively seek out religion for our children, but we address religious issues as the arise. You want to remember to arm your children with knowledge that way people can't turn them into religious fanatics.

it would be easy enough to schedule something at a time and place where it would be ok to bring kids... hell im about to have a kid, and meeting freethinking parents is one of the things i really wqant to do.

i want to find out exactly how parents are keeping religion from their children (if they are) in this heavily religious state.

I hardly ever get away from the kiddos, but when you guys have the info on this meeting decided we'll see what we can do.

I'm up for wherever we might want to get together. I'm often in downtown Greenville and can nail down a couple of good spots to meet. I can haul it down to Anderson if that is central for everybody else though. Cheers,

well how many people would be willing to drive to anderson? there is a very friendly pub called corbitts http://www.mcgeesirishpub.com/ its very welcoming to groups... has amazing food, and a pretty good bartender.
