Thanks Stacey. I was waiting on the person who said they'd rather meet somewhere other than Sapa, because it was too noisy and hard to hear. They said they'd find us a new place. I'll see if I can find out if they've found one, and try to get back to this within 24 hours.

Maybe people could still throw out suggestions for a new location, just in case the person scouting new locations doesn't get back to us.. Comfortable seating would be good. Sapas was great, but it was hard to hear due to their smoothie making operation.

Also, it might be a good idea for people to consider what they want out of a group, how often they'd like to meet, etc... Once things are humming along in the Burlington area, I may attend less so I can get meetings organized in my area... unless there just aren't enough of us in the state to make local meetings happen.

I don't have enough time to relay information back and forth between Skeptical Vermont and the Burlington Atheist and Humanist group, so if someone would volunteer to do that, I'd appreciate it.

Looks like I won't be able to make this one either (a business trip went longer than planned so I missed the last one). Hopefully I can make it to the next one, I look forward to meeting all of you.

Sure! So as far as I know, I will be able to attend! I honestly have no idea how meetup groups like these best function...so I may do some research on the matter.

Should we keep this to the Burlington area for now, or do you think it would be appropriate to rotate locations to a few choice places around the state? (One month Burlington, next month Middlebury etc).


I'm going to scout Middlebury, VT for some good places to meet (theres a couple possible locations). It is about 45mins north of Rutland, and about 55mins south of Burlington.
If we want to consider a new location for this month, would Middlebury be a place that would work for people?

From my perspective, we're not a Meetup group, although we are (hopefully) interacting with and inviting people from the Burlington Atheists and Humanists Meetup group, and should be able to work together.

Meetup charges group creators/organizers... Atheist Nexus doesn't. It would be great for people to support Atheist Nexus with donations, but it's not a requirement and no one gets treated better or worse for having/not having donated.

I would be happy to attend meetings elsewhere in the state, too. I don't have the time to organize anything else, as I'm a month behind on gardening. I'll have more "free" time toward the end of September.

It would be great if you can find a spot in Middlebury. It would certainly work for me.

I'm not the person who said that Sappa's was too noisy to return to, but I am the person who said that I would research use of the Fletcher Library for the group on the 30th. I'll try to get that worked out in the next few days.

This is why my memory of what happened at the meeting is not to be relied upon. It's a good thing I'm also not doing any genetic engineering, because we'd truly end up with Frankenfish.

Thanks Jon! I thought it was someone else in charge of finding a new meeting place.

The Fletcher Free Library, in Burlington, has 3 meeting rooms. They are sized to hold meetings with 50-75 people, and cannot be reserved for groups as small as 12. One of them is quite likely to be available on a Sunday afternoon, since that is a slow time.

The bottom line seems to be that we can try to hold the meeting there, but there is no assurance. Of course, we always could walk the 2 blocks to Sappas if all of the meeting rooms were in use.

Thanks for checking into this. Sapa had comfortable chairs, good drinks, but I also had problems hearing when the smoothie machine was in operation. I'm hoping the library will be available.

I am completely and totally unfamiliar with the Fletcher Free Library. Is there some area people can assemble before 2 PM? Do we just walk en masse up to a librarian and ask for a meeting room?

One or two of us should show up early, and snag a room; then people can ask at the front desk where the Skeptical gathering is, or one of us can hang out in front for a few minutes.
