In this world, we can't get away from religion. We've been exposed to false information regarding contraception failure rates and experienced the STD scare tactics. Some of us may even have gone through abstinence-only sex education!

-questions that would shock the religious

@Susan, my disdain for the term has to do with the concept of purity that goes along with it. I have no problem with people who don't want to have sex. I just get ruffled when girls are made to feel that they have lower worth, and, to me, that term has a lot to do with it.
@Nerd, I came across that article when TNT was having the heated hymen discussion. Heated hymen. That sounds kind of gross. Anyway, great article.

Virginity is a useful designation for medical purposes. I really don't need to get a Pap because i am a virgin. I had to have a vaginal ultrasound and discovered that they do not do a probe on virgins unless absolutely needed.
Not everyone wants to have sex, so I fail to see how you can make virginity obsulete.

Indeed since virginity is a mental/religious state and not a biological one. In strictly biological/scientific terms, there is no such thing as virginity.
