Sex for fun and non-procreation!

In this world, we can't get away from religion. We've been exposed to false information regarding contraception failure rates and experienced the STD scare tactics. Some of us may even have gone through abstinence-only sex education!

Here in Secular Sexuality we will discuss:

-sexual health in light of peer-reviewed science
-safe for work guides on safe(r) sex (or links)
-questions that would shock the religious

Anyone who reads what you just wrote can see how you are trying to twist the word "consent" to include the raping of children. You are disgusting.

My inbox is littered with every message from today. So everyone knows exactly what's being discussed and can respond accordingly, here's Juan Pablo's original post, complete with links.

------------
One of the most controversial opinions to hold in modern Western culture is that adult-child sexual interactions can be consensual, are not always harmful, and may even be beneficial.  Despite the controversy, some researchers have been brave enough to present voices of reason that affirm this, and in the face of a culture so hysterical at the demonized image of the child-molesting, rapist "pedophile" that it actually causes harm to the very children it tries to protect.  It's time we start considering empirical evidence and logic on this emotionally-charged issue.  The modern treatment of this issue creates victims out of children and adults and causes immense trauma and suffering.

To be clear, the argument is that a distinction can be made between consensual and non-consensual adult-child sexual interactions.  The unwilling participation of a child or adult will always qualify the interaction as molestation or rape, and these researchers would never advocate for such interaction.

Please, give these researchers the respect they deserve.  The pressure not to publish the truth on this issue is immense, and to do so is to sacrifice one's career (and more).

I would like to point everyone to two peer-reviewed articles published in academic journals that do a very good job of enlightening the common person of the reality of this situation.  One article, published this year, focusing specifically on relationships between men and boys, has been graciously provided for free until the end of this year by the publisher.  The other article, though not free directly from the publisher, I have found uploaded in full from a couple sources.  The link to the original article from the publisher has still been provided.

FREE ARTICLE (until 12/31/11): The Role of Androphilia in the Psychosexual Development of Boys (http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/19317611.2010.509696)

CONDEMNATION OF A SCIENTIFIC ARTICLE: A CHRONOLOGY AND REFUTATION OF THE ATTACKS AND A DISCUSSION OF THREATS TO THE INTEGRITY OF SCIENCE (http://www.springerlink.com/content/q771v3lq3x036122/)
Alternative Source 1 (http://www.accessmylibrary.com/article-1G1-65225957/condemnation-sc...)
Alternative Source 2 (http://www.ipce.info/library_2/rbt/condemn_frame.htm)

After reading through one or both articles, I would like to hear everyone's thoughts and criticisms.  How did you feel while reading these?  Has your opinion on this issue changed?  If not, why not?  Do you, like the researchers and sympathetics, feel pressure against holding this non-standard opinion?

Thanks for reading and participating!

This from a NAMBLA sympathizer and child rape advocate...

What evidence? All that was posted were a couple of trash "papers" with no support or the poster's claimed peer review. When presented with the demand to prove any sort of support from an actual scientist(s) the poster locked the thread.

The only person I saw advocating it has been banned and he was the one who started this mess.

Well said, Eduardo. The sex laws in this country need some thorough reworking.

I'm shocked as well by some of the things said here. I admit I haven't thoroughly read this whole discussion, but has anyone actually advocated in favor of child sex? If not, the hysteria is entirely unwarranted.

Some of my counseling and mentoring experiences included felons trying to get their lives restarted. One young man had been convicted of statutory rape of a 15-year old girl when he was 17. The court threw the book at him, even though the girl had lied about her age and, as she admitted in court, she had been the aggressor and had deliberately seduced him. She told the court that she loved him, didn't wish him any harm, and would marry him if she could. But the judge said his hands were tied (?) and sentenced him to prison. Now I'm sorry folks, but is just one more case where I think that our laws are way too outmoded and senseless. Many MANY cultures in the world provide a much healthier and rational environment for young people to grow into their sexuality. And frankly, I'm shocked at some of the hysteria that I read in this thread.

If it's true of girls why isn't it true of boys? Not everyone, not you or I, but many others...

later prepubertal and young adolescent boys are openly attracted to older boys and men

Uh, no they're not.  I sure as hell wasn't.
