Why Do We Live in a World That's Petrified of Women Who Love Sex?
A great article by Noah Brand!
...assumptions about male libido, as godawful as they are, pale in comparison to the incredibly creepy cultural ideas about female libido.
What the hell happened between the 15th century and the 21st? Okay, admittedly, several things happened. But the one we’re concerned with is that women’s libidos went from being considered as powerful or more so than men’s to being essentially erased.Pre-Renaissance examples of horny ladies abound,...
This change in attitudes appears to have been religiously motivated, and based on the idea that women are more spiritual and sacred than men, meaning “less horny.”

Permalink Reply by Brother Eduardo on March 6, 2012 at 8:31am Our language lacks appropriate vocabulary to accurately say what is true for me about this subject. The nearest I can come (in English) is this: I love whores because I'm a whore-monger. What I mean is that I love women who love sex. I regard high libido women as champions among women. The best partners and lovers I've ever had were women who've had sex with many men, usually about the same number of men as I've had sex with women. So if our culture really is petrified of women who love sex, then once again, I'm very atypical of men in my culture.
... an all-out takeover of society by flaming atheist liberal feminists ...
Hear, hear!
Part of me still has trouble with the title of the book The Ethical Slut, whose authors seek to reclaim the word "slut" to mean someone of any gender who has the courage to live by the conviction that sex is nice and pleasure is good for you. I still feel too much negative baggage to use the label myself, even though I wholeheartedly agree with their vision of a sex-positive (and polyamorous, if it suits you) way of life.
Permalink Reply by Dogly on March 6, 2012 at 9:43am Brother Edward, a fish-monger is one who sells fish. A whore-monger is one who sells whores. I hope you do not mean you are a pimp. It sounds as though you mean that you love lusty women. Good! Just be careful with words that can be insulting.

Permalink Reply by Dogly on March 6, 2012 at 10:20am Why would women need a sex specific word for feelings, and sensations, shared by both men and women?
Permalink Reply by Brother Eduardo on March 6, 2012 at 1:30pm Hi Dogly. Well, first off, I was called a "whoremonger" by some of my contemporaries when I was a young man, chiefly (I guess) because the people casting those stones were either envious of the good time I was having or else they were just plain old garden variety moralizers. At that time (because I was lacking maturity and self-confidence), I felt some pangs of guilt about their name calling...but it still didn't stop me from pursuing an active sex life. And BTW, Random House defines whoremonger as "one who consorts with whores" or a lecher or pander. Further, they define a whore as "a woman who engages in promiscuous intercourse, usually for money." Now, MY definition of a whore leaves off the "usually for money" part. So, based on my own definition, I love whores. In my opinion, whores are champions among women. And yea though I may be vilified by the bible thumpers, I am nevertheless a whoremonger. (Except now, I mostly just like them and hang around with them...but I only sleep with my own personal whore, an angel whom I love and treasure above everything on this planet.)
Permalink Reply by Dogly on March 6, 2012 at 5:23pm I think that more women would have more sex more often if only men would not call us whores.

Permalink Reply by Ruth Anthony-Gardner on March 14, 2012 at 10:49am Ok, I don't like the use of "whore", of course, but Brother Eduardo reclaims it by leaving off the "usually for money part" and says he's a high libido man who likes and hangs around with high libido women. Perhaps I was too enthusiastic about high libido women being champions among women. As a high libido woman (in my heyday), do you know how rare that attitude is.
Permalink Reply by Dogly on March 14, 2012 at 11:57am Like white people have reclaimed "nigger" to mean buddy? Only the victims of slurs can reclaim them. Whore is not an insult used for men, so men can't reclaim it.
Permalink Reply by Mildred Fludgecow on March 15, 2012 at 1:27am have to disagree with this... no victim should ever have to reclaim any word used to degrade him or her in the past. Words are only as powerful as the person expressing them.
I was a pretty promiscuous woman in my day, and am proud to say I always understood that racial and sexual slurs were always used in proper context, whether in the bedroom or not.

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day. however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more. in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.
I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).
THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.
I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…
