Do you like sexy stories / erotica?

I found a book called "The Tempted Bride" in the trunk of a car when I was a kid and it shocked me. (I was raised Southern Baptist, which helps explain that.) I grew up wanting to write and I did, publishing short stories and poems in literary journals. But my sex stories seem to me to be my best *writing.* A publisher will put out a collection this week, which thrills me, though I don't tell my siblings and old freinds about the book for fear they'll think less of me for writing 'smut.'


Anyone here ever wrestle with this? (If not writing it, then admitting that you like to read it.)

I don't wrestle with it, but I really liked reading Anne Rice's Beauty series.

All my stories end up having a lot of sexy scenes in them, and most of them wouldn't make sense if I took the sex out of them. That makes it a little weird when relatives and coworkers say they would love to see my writing.

I don't anymore, cuz it isn't very 'edifying', I'd rather just watch a quicky!

But I remember in childhood I was quite exposed to erotic novels, my neighbor was a log trucker back in the early 70s, and his cab was full of em. I was a good reader and the neighbors and I would gather in the truck and I'd read the stories to them. Funny memories, but they left an imprint on me, a good one!

Then later I read some of the trashier HRs, they were sweet, but that was just one Summer.

When it comes to sexual pleasure, I prefer someone else's real flesh over any toy or book or film :)

Actually erotica novels were quite edifying... cuz as an adult, I was able to explore every single one of my 'fantasies' with eyes wide open, on my own time, according to my own desires. They also tought me to EXPRESS my desires and NON desires.

Maybe we should give them to all kids!

I'm a huge fan of erotica, especially of the S&M variety. Some of my favorites include Panic Snap and Topping from Below by Laura Reese, Carrie's Story and Safe Word by Molly Weatherfield.

I remember when I was in my teens my father walked in on me reading The Story of O and I quickly hid it. He of course demanded that I turn it over, assuming it was porn. In reality when he saw what it was he flipped out and I got a big lecture about how S&M wasn't "normal", and tried to made me feel like my fantasies were something to be ashamed of.

Luckily it didn't work.

It would be tough to answer this in any definitive way. Was my adult life affected by my choice of literature, or were those desires already there and they manifested themselves through my choice of reading material?

To answer your question more directly, it has affected it, but not nearly often enough. ;)Unfortunatley most of the women I meet are only interested in "Vanilla" relationships.

It's a trickly subject to approach with someone, because you never know where their boundaries are. I'm usually afriad she'll get freaked out and want to leave if I bring it up, which has happened in the past.

I've read very little S&M, somedays it's hot, somedays not... same as in life... Not being knowledgeable in the terminology, I expect the range of what's called S&M is quite wide...?

That's true. Society would lead us to believe that S&M or BDSM as its also known is about pain and abuse. They try to link S&M with ridiculous things like abuse, which is like saying that enjoying ponography means you condone child pornography.

The reality is it's largely about control. The enjoyment comes from one person having complete power over another, and that this "slavery" is a consentual act on the part of the abused. The "slave' must be able to trust that the "master" will not exceed the limits the two have established.

No serious fan of S&M would ever condone abuse, and trust is a large part of the relationship; like any relationship communication is key.

Most big citites have clubs where BDSM nights are quite common. I know Fort Lauderdale had a Fetish Night at least once a week, my boss used to attend regularly!

Hadn't googled this in a long time ... but I'm reminded of how adorable the old copper ingravings are :)
