Secular Freemasonry

Freemasonry is the original society of free-thinkers started in 1717 by members of the Royal Society. It's time to unite under the banner of Reason and begin a new Age of Enlightenment!

Isn't it alchemy: the making of something out of nothing (but thought)?  To simplify it seems to degrade the concept to most people.  People may not find something so simply and/or easy to…Continue

Glad to have found you. I knew I wasn't alone as a Master Mason and now an atheist. I still believe in the motto "Making good men better" How active is this group and how widespread is secular masonry?

Aloha,

I would love to join Grand Orient Freemasonry but here in Hawaii there is no G.O. Lodge.  Just your run-of-the-mill God-believing Freemasons.

My family has a long tradition of Freemasonry but the tradition broke when my dad died when we were quite young.  My mother never fostered it in us.  We were also raised buddhist.

My brother eventually became one but I am sure he had to disingenuously declare that he believes in a supreme being despite his atheism.  I for one wouldn't feel right joining having lied at the start.  Besides, I would probably want to join an organization that would foster my secular values and not drive home ethical and moral lessons with the Bible.

I am glad to see there is this movement in America.  Fremasonry as a whole as served as a "priesthood" of democracy and freethought although robed with religion.  To me it makes total sense to divorce the religious aspects of The Craft from Freemasonry, especially in the modern era where so many are unaffiliated with a church.

Grand Orient Freemasonry will take time to establish itself in religious America but it will take hold if those who care work hard to make it happen.

How do I join a Secular Lodge?
I'm a Freemason out of Michigan but because of a lot of study and reason have become a Athiest. Which everyone knows make me unable to stay a member of the Grand Lodge of Michigan F&AM.
I would like to join a secular lodge! I don't believe there is one in my area but would still like to become a member of a lodge?
I currently live in Northern Wisconsin on the Michigan border.

Ahhh, learn something new everyday! I wonder what my Home Lodge would do if they knew I was an Atheist? Thanks for the enlightening info.

What is Grand Orient Freemasonry. I have heard of Shrine organizations using that term "Grand Orient", but not in the Blue Lodge. Is this a Shrine or concordant body related group? FWIW, I am strictly a Blue Lodge Mason. I believe that all other Masonic groups are superficial and subordinate to the Blue Lodge.

I am a Freemason from California, now living in Arkansas. I find it interesting that for an organization that requires a "belief in a Supreme Being", there should be a group, or the beginnings of a group, devoted to people who do not profess a belief in a Supreme Being.
Nevertheless, I am pleased to find other Masons, such as myself, who are not believers.

This is cool. I thought that freemasonry was solely a fraternal order.
