Actually, the network that I think is consistently coming up with interesting original programming is USA Network. Other than the (now defunct) Dead Zone and The 4400 they're not sf/f, but I' a broad-minded kinda guy. Shows can be good even if they're not science fiction. I enjoy Monk, Psych, Burn Notice and even In Plain Sight.

Leslee: "????" isn't easily pronounceable. And what's wrong with fairies? They're better than SyFy....

Stephen...first of all, I'm almost done. Second, I agree that the monster movies are atrocious and make me want to poke me eyes out. I never got into the Stargate saga either, and do not watch GH, or wrestling (although my son does). During the day though, while I'm slaving away, they run marathons: my faves? Twilight Zone, Doctor Who, Sarah Jane Adventures, Eureka, and more. The daytime is brilliant. I vote they call the new SciFi channel....???? Because SyFy looks too fairylike.

well, I'd agree the programming on SciFi or SyFy has really gone downhill, and all the good shows are getting axed right and left...

time to find new channels... when I ever find time to sit and watch....

Richard--I absitively guarantee you'll love Eureka. I don't know any intelligent, scientific person who doesn't.

"Syfy" is actually a corruption of a corruption. Old-time science fiction fans like me hate the term sci-fi; it seems like such a put-down. (Harlan Ellison said "sci-fi" is the sound of two crickets fucking.) I'm given to understand that the real reason behind the name change is because they couldn't trademark the term "sci fi."

Since I never really got into the Stargate saga (which is not meant as a slam at them), the only thing I watch on that channel any more is Eureka. Certainly not wrestling or haunted houses crap. Those monster-of-the-week movies they make are so lame they should be rated NB. (That's Needs Bots, for you old MST-3K fans.) Comedy Central is starting up a new show next week that sounds promising: an s&s parody called Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire. Could be funny.

@richard valcourt: Devil in the Dark was def. one of my fav. eps from ST.
I have not seen the end of PD, so I'm disappointed to hear there won't be anymore and that it ended on a cliff hanger... pooh... I'm waiting for the DVD to be available...

I'm disappointed beyond belief that SciFi is changing their name to SyFy... or siffy, as I call it... seems iffy to me.
What a way to tell us, the loyal viewers that we're nerds... not even giving us geek status... AND to insinuate that we'd all LIKE SyFy *better*...

Well, I'm obviously going to have to start paying attention to the SciFi Channel (or SyFy, as they're going to themselves soon). I'd never heard of Eureka, and it looks like I missed some good stuff with Battlestar Galactica. Netflix, here I come.

I absolutely loved Pushing Daises, and I am bummed beyond words that it never made it. Even worse, it ended in a cliffhanger. I hope they're able to put together a TV movie to wrap up the loose ends.

Regarding the Treks, my favorite by far is Next Gen, but the very best from Classic Trek (like "Amok Time" and "Devil in the Dark") still really pack a punch.

Doctor Who-I can't get enough of (and actually created the group TARDIS)--Torchwood is hella good as well!!


My telly is usually always on the SciFi channel!! I'm going to go and buy all the DVD sets of all my fave sf shows...and just veg and eat and enjoy that which is good and science fiction-y!!..

I can actually recommend renting the DVD of BG Season 1 (new series). It was very well done and well-acted. The acting and the production values were actually good throughout; it's the writing that deteriorated so horribly.

I love Eureka too; looking forward to the new season. PD was fantasy rather than sf, but nothing wrong with that. I agree it was beautiful and fresh, one of the most original shows on the air in many years. Damn...I wish someone could touch it and bring it back to life!

I, also, have not watched any of the new BG. I tried really hard, and somewhat succeeded, to enjoy STNG, but the old ST will always have a fond place in my t.v. memories.
Even if I find it hard to watch those old episodes... haha.

I have much more enjoyed the newer, fresher shows, such as Eureka and Pushing Daisies... while I know that PD is more fiction than science, it's an ejoyable waste of time.

Drat, I'll have to sit this one out. I've not seen a single episode of the new Battlestar, probably because I have such foul memories of the old Battlestar. Don't worry about spoilers, though. I look forward to seeing the discussion.
