Welcome science fiction & fantasy fans!

As a science fiction/fantasy writer myself, I enjoy taking voyages into the unknown. Looking at the universe as it isn't often helps us put the real world into perspective. It's also fun to take an occasional vacation from the often-harsh reality around us. Unlike the theists, the religionists, the god-groupies who feel compelled to live in fantasy realms, we visit them and then come back home--and then go voyaging again.

I hope you'll all feel free to congregate here and compare your experiences in other worlds and times.

According to the network trailers, the new episode of CSI tonight involves a send-up of Star Trek fans. Naren Shankar was CSI's producer for a long time (I don't know if he still is); he was a writer on TNG and is quite familiar with the universe. (I worked with him briefly when I was writing Spectrum Holobyte's TNG comouter game.) This could be a lot of fun.

Maybe it's just me, but isn't there something vaguely oxymoronic about "Final Fantasy XI"?

FINAL FANTASY XI will always be better than world of warcraft

Although HHGG was a bit uneven, I thought Sam Rockwell's portrayal of Zaphod was spot-on.
The Vogons were also interesting.
Too bad there won't be a sequel.

Is it just me, or does 'Lost' seem to be 'lost'?

Woot! That may be the Time Slot of Doom, but at least we're going to be able to get closure on an amazing TV show. I'm going to have to be on my guard so that I don't hear anything about the early screenings. I want to be surprised in May and June. No more reading the SF Usenet groups until it's over, I guess.

ABC has decided to get their money's worth and will air the final 3 episodes of Pushing Daisies--on Saturday nights at 10 beginning May 30. Wonderful time slot. See this link for more details.

Nice to see a group like this. :) Scifi has always seemed to be one of the best venues for putting Atheist concepts and ideas out into the public sphere. Just Finished Staplton's "Last Men, First Men" perfect example of exactly what I'm talking about :)

Hey there everybody glad to be here. I've been doing some digging, and it appears that they are not making 'The Restaurant at the End of the Universe' into a movie. That I would like to see, it was my favorite of those books. Plus I liked the HGG movie. Thoughts?

I've been invited to be a guest speaker at the BayCon science fiction convention in Santa Clara, CA over the Memorial Day weekend (May 22-25). Anyone needing details, let me know.
