Comment by sk8eycat on January 7, 2013 at 11:08pm Yes...one based on the "Dr. Seuss" books because that was the origin of the theme title. But Pasadena is the home of CalTech and JPL, and I thought some outfit, or city, would have anticipated Curiosity's landing, or something like that. (They start planning for the next parade almost as soon as the current one is over.)
I was delighted that Dr. Jane Goodall was the Grand Marshall, but I didn't even see a float relating to her work in Africa, or her "Peace Doves."

Oh! Yes! I did forget! There was one total fantasy.... Jeebus showing people to the Gates of Heaving. (They should have paired it with a float of him sending people to Hell, just for accuracy's sake.) I yelled, "Gag me with a spoon!" at the TV.
Felaine, a genuine (old) Valley Girl
Well, I seem to recall some fantasy-type things, at least.
Comment by sk8eycat on January 7, 2013 at 9:10pm O,hai! I'm new here (in this group, NOT the Nexus). I'm a major fan of Robert A. Heinlein, Spider Robinson, Anne McCaffrey, Marion Zimmer Bradley, and Mercedes Lackey. Among others.
At this moment I'm still b*tching about the lack of any SF-or real science-themed floats in this year's Rose Parade...as usual. The official parade theme was "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" So why wasn't there one float showing astronauts on the moon, Curiosity on Mars, or fictional space explorers orbiting something spectacular like Jupiter or Saturn? It was the same old same old...flower-bedecked McMansions or cutesy-poo kiddie stuff. Well, the soldier reunited with his wife and son was good...but it's shameful that we still have our military in Afghanistan at all, acomplishing nothing. IMO
Okay. I'll shut up ....for now.
