Anne Rice has quit Christianity

As I said below, I quit being a Christian. I'm out. In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-Democrat. I refuse to be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be anti-life. In the name of Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian. Amen.

Gothic author Anne Rice has had a long and difficult road in search of religious truth and it is doubtful that her travels have ended. But she has made a significant change of course recently. She has left Christianity for the second time.
Rice publicly returned to Roman Catholicism in 1998. In 2005, Rice declared that from then on, she "would write only for the Lord" and released Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt.

Not that she is my favorite author but she did good work. It was a sad day when she got caught up in fantasy and bought into that one. It's good to know she's come back from the precipice of insanity.

Memnoch the Devil was a pretty great book. I wish she would renounce the self-ban on any supernatural books. She did great with them.

I've loved many of her books but was always kind of itchy about the whole Christian angle. It does sound to me like she's not really quitting Christianity; just the mainstream, organized side of it. I grew up very Christian and our flavor at least (Episcopal, aka Catholic Lite), was fine with gays, very feminist, pro-choice and pro-birth control.

The reason couldn't possibly be that she wasn't selling books? I love Anne Rice, in all her pseudonyms, but really, writing only for the Lord? Of course she rescinded her Christian proclamation.

I doubt that, there's a pretty good market for Christian books. The Left Behind novels are bestsellers.
Of course, maybe she was unwilling to write complete crap for the masses! -
