I had to delete and repost my first comment. After rereading it, I see now that I butchered Dawkins' name twice, which embarrasses me greatly as both an atheist and a former newspaper editor. (Sorry about that!) Here it is again, corrected.

I enjoyed The God Delusion. Dawkins ties in a variety of different subjects and makes them very accessible to the general public, without giving the impression that it's "dumbed down," so to speak.

As someone who is not yet well-versed in scientific and social topics related to atheism, but is hoping to become so, I think the book was an excellent starting point. I look forward to reading Dawkins' other writings.

Shanika, that's great to hear! In tons of articles about Dawkins and interviews about him, people say he's basically preaching to the choir in The God Delusion. So I guess people who are religious can actually get something useful out of the book. I got a lot out of it, but I was already a non-believer when I started reading it.

I recognize the LA Times article as projection; i.e., the Christians are the ones playing 'boo hoo victims.'
I find it hilarious that Christians claim a 80%-90% majority in America, yet cry 'persecution' every time an atheist disagrees with them.
Such demagoguery is all that theists have to argue with, since they have no facts on their side.

LA Times story this morning blasts atheists and say we are "boo-hoo victims" This article also blasts Richard Dawkins. Go read it! It's disgusting and it's wrong. The chic needs to do her research before spewing from the mouth. She says atheists can run for public office! NO WE CAN'T! Not in Texas! Not in a few other southern states either. Here's the link, go read.

"The resurrection converts the impossible into the inevitable. You can sense, can’t you, that this event is wonderfully woven of mystery – the mystery that is salvation, redemption, liberation. "

Any fairy tale can contain elements of mystery...especially one as self-contradictory as the resurrection myth...which, by the way, predates Christianity by centuries.

I'm a science-novice recovering creationist *shame* Dawkins makes complicated subjects accessible to former morons like me :)

A man who is a great example of someone that isn't "in the closet" or still thinking we can progress by "respecting others beliefs". He is a great teacher to us all.
