So, found this today: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/books/reviews/the-m...
... and while the whole thing is absolute rubbish, here's the line I keep coming back to: "Nowadays it is leading gung-ho industrialists to suppose that we can and should re-create our crops and livestock (and even, perhaps, ourselves) by "genetic engineering"." ... yes, and? Is that a bad thing?

Permalink Reply by James M. Martin on September 23, 2011 at 5:02pm @Diana: The skim reading I did of this hack job brought my eyes eventually to the remark that "any theologian" could educate Dawkins on the true nature of the "miracle." I can do that myself, in 20 words or less, on behalf of Dr. Dawkins: "Ever heard of post hoc reasoning?" To explain (if necessary): when one prays and there is a phenomenon that can only be explained by the prayer, you might have a miracle, but if the "result" is that your prayer is "answered," you only assume "God" heard the prayer, while there could be any number of explanations why the result came about.
If the result does not come about, you say that "God" had some other thing in mind for you, and anyway he works in mysterious ways.

And yes, I agree.
Permalink Reply by Idaho Spud on March 11, 2012 at 1:14pm Genetic engineering sounds wonderful to me. I don't think it will be long before we will re-create crops, livestock, and ourselves into much better organisms than evolution has done. That is, unless religious nutters are able to get their way.

There is a video of the Pope's 'exorcism' caught on film. The man isn't demon possessed, there are likely no 'real' demons. He's just delusional and doesn't want to accept personal responsiblity for his own behavior for his own dysfunctional life.

There is an ad that reads ' Do you support 'traditional' marriage? Vote Now"! .
No, I don't support 'traditional' marriage because there is no such thing. I support heterosexual and same-sex couples marry each other legally , yes. 'Traditional' marriage promoters largely do not believe that heterosexual women are co-equal to their husbands. Their only purpose in 'traditional' marriage is to sexually satisfy their husbands if they can and raise children and do all…

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day. however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more. in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.
I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).
THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…
