End Hereditary Religion is an initiative to stop the practice of indoctrinating children in the tenets and practices of their parents (or guardians) religion. As such this initiative is not against organized religion per se, just the age old practice of preying on vulnerable children. No one doubts that parents who cooperate with the indoctrination of children and indeed take part in this practice, believe they are acting correctly. But on closer inspection parents and faith communities have much to gain by consigning children at a very early age, before they develop mental defenses. I won't elaborate here, but instead suggest you visit my blog or read my Helium.com article:

I just posted a copy of my post to a forum on Amazon.com where I have been jousting with parents for some months. My aim was to go directly to parents with a slap in their face sort of approach and see what kind of reaction I got. It's been interesting, because my tactic is novel and gets people wondering what kind of madman I am. You can join the fun if you like:

I got slapped around by my Baptist preacher dad quite a bit... usually with a scripture soundtrack.
Literally interpretations of the bible can be dangerous for kids... for realses.

Oh, it's happened to me, too.

There's all kinds of psychological abuse in my house, and there has been abuse in the past.

And everyone but me is a fundamentalist Christian. EEP.

I am a bundle of nerves right now. I just received an e-mail from my half-brother talking how he's given his life back to the lord, and he has found forgiveness. What makes this so hard to stomach, this was a letter he had sent to his friend from jail for her to email me. He has admitted to 8+counts of child molesting. He grew up in a strict xian home. I find it disturbing that he can do these things to children ask for forgive ness and be forgiven in the xian church. I feel that a god that would stand back and watch this happen to a child is a sick fuck whom I want no part of!

Why would he write the letter for you? Does he want your forgiveness?

I think it was because he is fixin to go to court and be locked up for a long time. Also to tell me he was disappointed for me not sticking by him on this.

I'm with you guys. It's been exactly 30 years since I last set foot in my church, and I've been experiencing a little PTS, after all this time. Just found out that fellow classmates have this darkness and hatred towards the school too. Not just the beatings, but the psychological stuff, too.

I think there's a tradition in my old religion of ritualized sexualized corporal punishment/humiliation. There's a lot of messed-up people because of it.

Physical abuse, a TON of mental abuse, and good old fashioned medical neglect in the name of gawd.

Thank sensible people for seeing the need for this forum. I am still struggling with personality disorders brought on by my parents' emotional neglect and abuse.

War on Christmas in May

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/21/texas-merry-christmas-bill_n_3312786.html?utm_hp_ref=politics

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day.  however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more.  in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

My first funeral as an atheist

Posted by Two Cult Survivor on May 21, 2013 at 11:30am 0 Comments

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.

I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).

THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 12 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

Posted by Christy Stewart on May 20, 2013 at 2:17pm 6 Comments

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…
