Of course you have to mention Bob Marley. But other than Marley I listen to the following artists.
Gentleman, German born artist that pretty much lives in Jamaica now.
Martin Jondo, Found him through gentleman interesting voice.
Toots and the maytals, Good group just went to see them in concert this winter
UB40, An older couple I hang out with turned me on to these guys
Matisyahu, Hasidic Jew that puts out some decent music. I'm not super hot on his newest album, but I enjoy his first 2 albums.
I Wayne, really mellow music
And various others, these are the groups I listen to most.

He can't be that commercial. I tried to sample on Amazon but his name doesn't come up. You got the right spelling?

I love MUTABARUKA, Yeah! Bob, Sizzler (cry cry & black woman n child), Buju's voice but not jah reference, John Holt, Beres, George Nooks, Tanya Stephens, Lady Saw..and many more..
I do wish we had more non christian Jamaican artist...n more women!

Mutabaruka- just checked it out. Nice one. Thanks alot

......Big Youth...has a sense of humour sexy and gorgeously inflected voice. Growing up round around Brixton town in London during the 1970s-I heard his music a few years ago and it was familiar. There were a lot of dreads in Brixton they must have been playing it in the in-door market alot. Number One man.. Ride like Lightening has his best on 1 st CD of the two.
........Alpha Blondy......... is Love.... special kind of heart tinged with idealism. A lot of reviews on Amazon refer to a healing effect to his music. I can put this on in the morning and it will line my day. Jerusalem and Apartheid is Nazism.
........Fela. Kuti ......not reggae but fans will like the Afro world beat he invented. Nigerian but eclectic lived in The States and London whilst young........Gentleman. ...the 2nd track is shit hot.-Call and response with band members delighted to be in his band then horn and trumpet solo intro then his rhythmn melts over into the track. Later Fela. comes in with his strong heart voice.
.....Linton Kwesi Johnson........serious somber Brixton poet putting his words to reggae. His voice seems to be on the vertical. (deep) Has a great band backing him. I'll post the 2 albums he's known for and think his best ( not on my Mp3 ) ditto very familiar when heard it this year must have been popular in Brixton during the70s
..........Leroy Sibbles of the Heptones......Meaning of Life....Early reggae. Think his voice is better than Marley's. The Heptones were the band of choice backing more famous names and Leroy Sibbles chose to get on a plane to Canada than go solo. What he lacked against Marley was being too laid baçk for public fame in anycase.
.........King Stitt....Early reggae....of the Jamaican d.js that inspired rapping. He was called The Ugly One and man he is. I think artists with stigmas attached to them have to be double good ( Ian Dury also who had polio. He has reggae or reggae sounding beats being a London boy with a lot of respect for West-Indians musically) I play Dance Beat track to people not especially into reggae and they acknowledge it. Starts off with sly lyrical eerie repartee then amazing beat kicks in Party! !!
Reggae Fire Beat only album.
........Also the Abyssiinians-Satta Massagna and Black Uhuru-Red

.....Chaka Demus@ Pliers....Tease Me.....as the title says. Infectious all the pubs seemed to be playing it before I left in 92.

....Prince Fari....A dread being heavy maybe a lill' nasty but like it sometimes.

Linton Kwesi Johnson.....Forces of Victory....Bass Culture

Big Youth because most sounding Eiree

A group for young atheists, any ages from 0-20 welcome! People love to underestimate young people, especially minors who can't vote, but we are a powerful group...we are not alone.
