Of course you have to mention Bob Marley. But other than Marley I listen to the following artists.
Gentleman, German born artist that pretty much lives in Jamaica now.
Martin Jondo, Found him through gentleman interesting voice.
Toots and the maytals, Good group just went to see them in concert this winter
UB40, An older couple I hang out with turned me on to these guys
Matisyahu, Hasidic Jew that puts out some decent music. I'm not super hot on his newest album, but I enjoy his first 2 albums.
I Wayne, really mellow music
And various others, these are the groups I listen to most.

I'm into Gentleman too, and am fond of certain UB40 tracks...

I'm also really into Anthony B, Sizzla, Junior Kelly, Lutan Fyah, Tanya Stephens, Jah Mason....

I'd love to find some conscious reggae music coming from an atheist- I really love much of the rasta mentality but can't help but feel a little uneasy with the constant references to Jah etc...

Any good, conscious atheist reggae artists in existence?! Might be asking a bit much! :)

Don't worry about it and I have the same problems with Sun Ra plus he's convinced aliens are in communication with him and channeling when he gets into his far-out stuff. Never into drugs His book on bible interpretation is definitely subjective and wacko.
Not a problem with me if its good or great musiciens doing it. Whilst there is sublimation up there in left brain reason they are down there inside the right brain where their musical under-standing and intuition transcends werds. Their own Being being out-weighs belief in practise than yer average theist.
Not to be forgotton is a word is a symbol for what it means in detail or subtlety. When a musicien thinks God it could be a symbol for human potential and infinity and only that. ( where else Would dreads put high as a kite stoned anyway re feelin' infinite ) Think great music in taste and sense-ability can't help but be dealing in the " we create god " space inside through its intuitive passage. Sublimated music sounding exacty what it is.

......dat is reggae beat = thomp back fram widdin. Onsobleemaeshan to mine h-eyes ....and highs oh yes.

I like Barrington Levy, Half Pint, Toots, Matisyahu, Melodians, Sublime, and Long Beach Dub Allstars.
Definitely Bob Marley. Sean Paul too.
you might like SOJA or soldiers of jah army
Well I don't even need to mention Bob Marley, But there are also his sons have become some of my favorates over the years. then there are greats like Gregory Isaacs,Horace Andy, and Dennis Brown. I have been listening to these guys for years,,,
the only Rasta musician that I know of who may be a non theist is the Dub poet Muta Barruka (i think I spelled it right). Check for him on you tube...
His name is spell Mutabaruka, and yes he might be the only non-theist. He donot see Haile Selassie I as God or a God. He denounce Christianity, Islam and Judaism, he is totally Afro-centric and anti-Europian to some extent. He view Rastaferian as Christians, indeed, they are. Muta's poems are great. here is his site. Nevertheless, I grew up among Rastas and on Reggie music. Marley, is at the top, but besides him, I love Gregory Issac, Beris Hermon, Dennis Brown, the South African Lucky Duby, my boy Luciano. There are many more.
Super Ape has to be the greatest reggae album ever made! and anything else by Scratch. Yellowman rocks too

Yes- I like Lee Scratch Perry's Arkology ( 3x cd box set ) too for its underground sound

Whoops anyone else getting this? - there is a big gap in scrolling after evilgenius20 comment.

Does anybody else like Ijahman Levi

"Good point - I forgot about that.  You can display it for yourself in EDIT mode, but it doesn't show up on your profile.  Also a good point about videos ... need a display and handle for that."

Not believing in an afterlife does not mean i am a "sad' person.

I work in healthcare in a long term care facility and I deal with death on a regular basis. About a year ago the opportunity arose for me to take a palliative care course through my work.  I enjoyed it for the most part. It dealt with topics such as end of life care, pain relief and addressing the spiritual needs of different individuals based on their religious beliefs. There was one instance however that was decidedly unpleasant, and unfortunately really overshadowed the rest of my time in the…See More

"About the only thing I don't see on my home page that was there originally is the MP3 player and playlist.  Not cosmic, by any stretch, but I thought I'd mention it."
