Greetings from The Reddest State in the Union! Any other Okies out there?? I'm feeling kinda lonely! Was raised in Herbert W. Armstrong's cult, but got over it. I'm in the OKC area and would like to know if there are any groups to chat with here, however, would welcome all comments and questions from all over. I love being the stray cat in the dog kennel. Fundies are so much fun to fu....screw around with.

Greetings from northern Indiana. If this isn't part of the bible belt, I can't imagine any place worse for atheists. I don't personally know any atheists in this area. You can't throw a bible without hitting a church around here. I feel like a stray cat in a dog kennel.

Greetings from Missouri - the place where "good christian" is supposedly synonymous with "good person". I don't have a lot of friends here - mostly because there really isn't anything social to do here other than redneck bars or churches.

I have been away from the BB for over twenty years. I was stationed in S.C. and eventually got a college degree at Univ. of S.C. I spent about twenty years in the area. Because I was lived close to the university, I met people who could tolerate my atheism, but I did not broadcast it. Most of my friends were Jewish or outcast members of the BB society. I was blind sided by this very irrational culture because, initially, I became exposed to it at a tender age when I first entered the military. I actually suffered from cultural shock. Fortunately for me, I adjusted to the lifestyle of a recluse and was able to keep the crazies at arms length. Despite my ability to adjust, I frequently had very uncomfortable social situations. I met my wife there and she was a strong agnostic. Eventually, she was blacklisted in her profession which had much to do with their very prejudice culture. I reentered the military and eventually, we were stationed in the north.
I do understand the plight of those who are in the BB. My suggestion is to move close to a college, university or possibly a military base. They are populated with people who are not part of the BB culture. The Jewish community tends to isolate themselves from the Christian fundamentalists so socializing with them is usually fun.
I was stunned by one thing that I did learn about the BB culture. I saw many people develop psychological and sociological problems as a direct result of the prejudice of the BB culture, particularly with people who did not have a strong family support. I survived and even thrived because I viewed the myself as an culture anthropologist in a foreign land. I knew that I had to be careful in dealing with the natives. I learned this particular mind set from living in Korea for over a year. Interestly, I was not your typical military person. I would rather hang out with the natives then be subjected to the military straight lace value system on my off duty hours. I am amazed that I able to tolerate the military mind set until retirement. Being a professional in the health care field made it possible.

I understand Stormy. It is bad here. But not quite as bad as Louisanna. Though I will say Elizabeth Dole and Kay Hagen slammed the Atheists in their political adds this year. This is one reason I am speaking out. I am openly Athiest now and will not back down. I don't really care what anyone thinks about me. I am mostly a loner anyway. I have joined a local Atheist meet up group here. They are based in Raleigh. I am going to do everything in my power to get the word out that we are here and not going anywhere.

I posted some flyers 2 weeks ago for the Atheist meet up group around the small town that I live in. I must tell you they stayed up 2 days and then was gone. That pisses me off to no end. I hope our group will find a way to post a billboard in my area. That will get the word out and won't be tampered with.

I don't understand why the Athiests are the mosted hated group in America. I hope we can all unite and change this stereotype.

Stay strong and don't back down. Tell those christians to bring it and stop singing it. Make them show proof. I have gotten a lot of ammunition from a website, godisimaginary.com, it is either .com or .org. It has 50 proofs against the bible and there are some good videos you might be interested in. You can back most christians down. They really don't read their bible as well as they should. LOL

Keep up the good fight.

Nice to see I'm not alone in hell!

I evacuated to central Louisiana from New Orleans, not knowing what I was getting into.
There are no clubs or bars here as all the socialiizng is done at churches, and there are churches on nearly every block.
A lot of businesses advertize their business as a Christian business and if you accidently walk into one of these places, there are oly bibles to read, there are Christian posters on the walls, and Pat Robinson on the TV or some Christian program on the radio, or a gospel CD playing. There are signs in front of some of these that read "Enough is enough, it's time we all stand up for Jesus,' at least this gives me a clue not to go in.

If you start a conversation in a store you can bet it will end up with something about Jesus or God. They are like the Stetford(sp?) wives.
I've already had six hostile women try to spread rumors about me because I am openly Atheistic/Agnostic.
I feel so isolated!
RiverOtter, damned I was considering moving to North Carolina, say it aint so!
This place scares the hell out of me cause I looked at the map of the bible belt and it is growing. It Christianity takes over this country it will be no more than another Muslim country.
I suspect the reason it is growing is that the churches are establishing a major control over social events and work places in order to force more converts, because not too long ago Christianity was on a down slope.
RiverOtter say it aint so, I was considering North Carolina as a possible place to move to.
It is like being in hell here! I am so isolated.

Hello Y'all from NC. I moved here from Northern Vermont in 1993.
I wasn't here 6 months before I was reminded by an employer that I was in the bible belt. LOL. Like no shit sherlock there's a church on every corner. And I mean EVERY corner.
I love it when I get preached at. I tell them to show me the math. Prove it! ROFLMAO! That shuts them up pretty quick.
