I love debating the bible with christians and I take particlular pleasure in saying things that offend them to the point that I can see them just barely able to refrain from hitting me, such as the fact that anyone literate enough to write the bible in that time were usually drunk by 10:00am and likely in combination with being high on opium and cannabis...Man when I say that the outright rage in their eyes is so evident and my joy at that is almost orgasmic. Now I don't just go around doing this at random...I'm at least a little more responsible than that, but not by a whole lot. My own rage at the infiltration of the bible in the laws I have to obey in my opinion justifies my sheer belligerence at their silly beliefs.

Eric, I usually offer up a little smirk with the look and delivery, but sometimes (though not very often) I do mean to offend as I find the question offensive.

Well yea, dah, Damian. No one expects you to hound anyone at your job/business. Or start phylisophical debates with any/every passerby just to see who's a freethinker. (unless you like that kind of drama ;) But Aiden responce is great if delivered light heartedly as so not to offend. Cause we atheist so like to not offend, right? :O]

I'm all about the "speak your mind" attitude, but i do think there is a time and place for it. I've been known to pepper people with questions. I just wanted to know where they stood, and they took it for rudeness. But, I won't lose $/customers just to make a point. That's all i'm sayin. I really didn't see a point in starting an argument with an elderly person.

My most frequent response to the "do you believe in God?" type questions is a casual "of course not..." delivered with a strange/confused look that portrays a "why would you ask something so stupid?" feeling.

Sometimes they need to be shocked and reminded that not everyone believes in a god. I was stopped 2day on my way into the grocery store by someone selling something to support their church. I told her "I'm an atheist and I don't support churches." She looked at me w/confusion as I continue to enter the store. I doubt if she knew what an atheist is. Sometimes I believe that if we (atheist) are more up front when religiously approached we'd find more like us locally. You don't HAVE to stop and debate beliefs. Let's show our pride in our beliefs as they do.

You're definitely not alone in the bible belt. I don't know anyone in my city who is an atheist:) While working the other day, this woman didn't ask me if i was religious, but out of the blue, she asked "are you catholic?" I bet everyone in her life is a catholic, so i didn't want to shock her. That was no situation for a debate; didn't want a shit storm.
