Recovering from Religion

Recovering from Religion

Unless you were raised by atheist parents, you probably had some recovering to do when you left religion. The purpose of RR is to provide a landing place for people when they jump from religion. With local support groups throughout the US, Canada, UK, and Australia, and real-time resources accessible to everyone, RR is where to turn when faith has lost its luster.

Anyone still deal with anything like this?

One thing I have noticed is a tendency to "doubt" my new path in life. I still want to reach for the Bible sometimes. I still hesitate somewhat when someone mentions Pascal's "Wager"...LOL! Even though I know that science teaches this and that no…Continue

Last night I was reading Seth Andrew's book, Deconverted, and I almost fell out of my chair when he discussed being forced to watch the end times film from the 1970's call "A Thief in the Night."  He described some of the scenes, and I had a…Continue

I was happy to find this group. I was raised in a xtian household whereas my fiance was raised without religion. This sometimes makes it difficult to discuss issues of atheism because we come from such different backgrounds. It's nice to have a place to chat with people who have similar experiences to mine!

Hello everyone. I just joined the group. I have been an atheist for a little over ten years, but I was brought up in a very religious home. My father is now an atheist, but the same can't be said for the rest of my family.

This may or may not be helpful to those in religious recovery. Shredding and Recycling the Bible (and other "holy" books).

Hey, does anyone know how to make a "fan club" thing on Facebook? I would like to see if that would be an appropriate forum for 1. recovering from religion and 2. my book tour information. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Hey Darrel, things are going a bit slow here the the Joplin area, but have hopes that the message well be getting out for the group.

Hello Darrel, great to see RR on this site.

Y'know, it was the Christians that came up with the concept of eternal hell. It wasn't bad enough going to Hades or meeting that nasty goddess Hel. Early Christian theologians wanted more bang for the buck: unbearable hellfire for ever and ever with no hope of assuagement.

If RR could only figure out a way to deal with this horrible indoctrinated fear.

Timo: Thanks for joining RR. Your dilemma is common with many people leaving religion. Take a look at our site There are some resources there. Also, read the last four chapters of my book The God Virus. I discuss that very problem. If you have an interest in starting a Recovering from Religion group in your area, let me know. We have support materials and I'll help you by phone or email.
