Recovering from Religion

Unless you were raised by atheist parents, you probably had some recovering to do when you left religion. The purpose of RR is to provide a landing place for people when they jump from religion. With local support groups throughout the US, Canada, UK, and Australia, and real-time resources accessible to everyone, RR is where to turn when faith has lost its luster.

One thing I have noticed is a tendency to "doubt" my new path in life. I still want to reach for the Bible sometimes. I still hesitate somewhat when someone mentions Pascal's "Wager"...LOL! Even though I know that science teaches this and that no…Continue

Last night I was reading Seth Andrew's book, Deconverted, and I almost fell out of my chair when he discussed being forced to watch the end times film from the 1970's call "A Thief in the Night."  He described some of the scenes, and I had a…Continue

I never held any deep religious beliefs, and I wasn't raised by atheist parents. I grew up in a dysfunctional family, so I didn't have the opportunity to get doctrinated. However, later in life when I decided I should be (i.e., I was supposed to be) religious, I made a real effort to believe. I played that game for a few years, and then I saw the light. The game was over; I realized that I had been deluding myself and that I had never, ever had anything that could be called a religious experience. I have only one friend who is an admitted atheist, but I am sure I know other people who are atheists, but they haven't admitted it to themselves yet.

This is a common problem among Mormons, and I've seen some sample letters at exmormon.com

Mahai, you gotta be assertive with this bullshit. Go to the church rectumry and tell 'em you want to be delisted. Scare the piss out them. Tell 'em you want no part of this voodoo and bugetty-boo or you'll complain to Beelzebub.

Mihai, BE SURE to request a letter of confirmation, acknowledging that they have officially removed you from their roster.

Mihai-

I would try sending them a formal letter asking them to remove you from their membership lists. That you are no longer a member of the church, and do not wish to remain on the church rolls, or receive any mailings from them.

How do I formally defect from the (Southern) Baptist Church?
I last went to that church about 18 months ago, but my name is still on their rolls and that pisses me off; I want myself removed from any membership list they may have; I will appreciate any idea you may have. Thanks.

Gustavo, remember Bibles are an important part of history and should be treated with respect. They are not garbage. They're absolute proof of how gullible people can be.
